Water leak in the roof

Has any one had an official antenna leak fix from GM such as new antenna without sealant etc? Does anyone know if the revised the antenna to seal better????? And did anyone tackle the fix themselves by removing the headliner and seeing if the seal is seated well enough with how its bolted in.

I just noticed water coming in from my visor mount just as others have. I know it coming in from the pourly designed antenna because I found pictures of how its designed on ebay, there are multiple PN for this some of being 22762363, 23161738, 22762365 but they all have the same mounting, seems to be some sort of clenching bracket with a small main seal(the seal you can't see when mounted). The secondary seal with the split is just as worthless. Not sure if the slit has something to do with venting or not. I can assure they didn't do real world testing on this design. I pulled up on the antenna and water can pouring out of the front. What crap this is and what kind of engineers would design it this way. Think about it, water gets under the antenna from the open slit, fills up the cavity, freezes and expands and pushes the antenna up and wala you now have a breach in the main seal(the small one you can't see).

Anywhos, I am thinking of just pushing some butyl tape into the open slit for now to keep the water from getting in. The seal seems to hold the water out except for the slit.

Any other thoughts?

I would use some black RTV sealant under and above the seal. Use a small bead so it does not make a mess. I would not rely on the seal they use. I do not recall having any water leaks on my '06 trucs and I have the XM radio shark fin antenna on the roof too. So what has changed? If something works, why mess with the design?

Well I put some butyl in the hole for now just to see if that helps, its not perminent. Silicone is a little more perminent and I rather see whats really going on before I go with silicone/rtv. I did take a ride to the dealer to see if they have any TSB's or solutions for this. They searched the system and didn't find anything. And also said they have a leak specialist that could take a look at it. I am sure the only thing they would do is have their leak specialist come in and leak test it and fix it with silicone as well and also mess up the headliner as well. But what I am looking for is more of revised design to fix it instaed of a patch. Don't care for patch fixes as much when you are dealing with a $50,000 truck. Seems like reverse engineering may have to done here. Anyone get this far yet??

there is another thread on this forum site - and its affecting the Tahoe yukon platform as well - most of us have had our onstar and nav systems fail because of this.

Slightly different topic. Is there such a thing as an antenna-delete plate to cover the hole left when the antenna is removed?

Well I found out that the part number for the antenna was changed in May 2014 from 22762364(old) to 23447542. My build date was 7/11/14, so God knows what one I have. There is no information on why the numbers changed, if anyone knows more info on the number change it would be greatly appreciated, Hopefully is has something to do mechanically regarding it leaking but that would most likey be wishful thinking. If this is true GM may only have done a production run change and not release a TSB/recall unless more problems arise???

Does anyone have a 2015 that is leaking from the antenna?

Mine is a tahoe - but I think the antenna / onstar setup is the same. I am told I have water in the antenna - I have not seen it entering the cab as some have at the headliner / visor points. The initial symptom was a failing GPS unit.

I am noticing a bit of condensation on the windshield now at start up.

They use plastic plugs to cover holes in the roofs of old police cars when they are pulled out of service and the emergency/comm equipment is removed.

If the condensation is basically water droplets and not the typical fog than you definitely have water getting in. The headliner may not asorb the water and you will never see it, unless you actually see it dripping. The water also works it way down the "A" piller and may saturate around the bottom of the windsheild and this will give you the condesation around the perimitter of the windsheild.

I believe that the water could be getting into the actual antenna like you where told. Instead of it leaking though the seal that mates with the roof it could be getting into the assembly and leaking though the cable/wire egress. I assume if the is happening then yes your antenna could fail as well.

Do you happen to know what the part number for you antenna is? You may have a different PN due to the roof line/model etc.

Recently had water come in at the console above the rear view mirror. Came out at both sides of the console. The service dept said he had seen others when I asked. They are having a water leak company look at it. I want a full report on what they find. Not cool to have water coming inside a vehicle. Who knows where it's going!?

Hi, what year is you truck / build date? And did you notice the water come in after a freeze, that seems to be when I get mine. If it rains than freezes and than rain afterwards I get the water.

Yes, please get a full report of what they find and how the actually fixed it. Don't settle for the "oh we just replaced the gasket or something" The gasket on this is not servicable and I am thinking the dealers are fixing them with silicone.

I posted above that there is a newer part number for the antenna. Get that info as well, what antenna was in your truck and if they replace it, what what is the part number of the replacment. I can't find any info on why the numbers changed.

I hadn't checked before. It's build date says 12/13. I wish I would have checked that before buying. I assumed it was newer. Crap. Apparently it's an early 2014.

Having the same Onstar, remote app start, CAL, No GPS issues!

BRAND NEW GMC Sierra 15! only 2 weeks old. Unacceptable.

I am extremely frustrated. This is my second car in a row with problems.

I just had the most frustrating year with Jeep and turned out to be a lemon, and now a 2 week old truck with issues.

This is absolutely ridiculous. And it's not like this car is cheap either.

Just dropped the car off at the dealership this AM, the service advisor said he'll call me later today but thinks the part is on backorder and will have to keep for several days... REALLY!
