Swapping gears

Wait by friend do you mean employed by a shop? I'd be awful tempted to get it in writing. Explain the job, and define acceptable work, and that they have to complete the job to your approval and get them to sign it. Gear installs can go bad...

I know from experience lol. The front diff. is the hard part since it's IFS

That's a good deal. I paid 400 an axle for mine plus shop supplies. Came out to be 850 total (I provided parts gears, new locker for rear, and master overhaul kits) Sent while drinkin' a cold one...

Would you mind posting a run-down of what parts you supplied?

I'm trying to pull together info for my '12 GMT900 1500 and want to be familiar with what others have done so that I can make some good decisions on where I want to go with it.

Currently running 285's on 3:42 with a level kit. Truck feels like a slug.

Plan on going to 305 60/65 18 but want to get setup for towing as well. After a tire change and gear swap, I'll get a custom Blackbear tune from Justin.

I provided gears, new rear locker, axles, and master overhaul kits front and rear. reused the stock front open carrier. I pulled the IFS housing and rear axle housing out and took them into the shop loose (not in vehicle). haven't had problems with gears yet but locker was a no no for me considering the amount of highway driving I do

I'd go with a shorter gear than .56, if the .88 is a choice, I'd go with that considering you send so many messages "in a field" lol. The taller .56 is fine, as would be a .10 and the 3.73 or even a 3.42... all of them will function just fine.

The key is, you want to do this gear swap once, based on your post, and you clearly want bigger tires... so put in the .88 gear and be done.... you could even go to a 5.xx gear if you wanted to if you're going to put 37/39+ or something pretty huge on it.

do it once.
