Headlight on/off question

Hey guys, new to the forum and actually new to Chevy, been a dodge owner the last 12 years. I just bought a 2014 silverado and I love it. I just have a quick question:

Does anybody else's headlights stay on ALL the time. I have them on auto and they come on even when it is bright outside....I have to turn them off each time.

They are called Daytime Running Lights here in Ontario... By law now we have them on low power and then the sensor kicks in when it gets dark and goes to full low beam power. I can only turn them off when parked , they come on automatically day and night.

Congrats on the truck and the upgrade! Scooby is right...they are called daytime running lights.

GM has had DRL for a long time. I makes me angry to see ford vehicles on the road without them. Also GM was waaaay ahead on automatic lights coming on at dusk.

Its ok to just leave them on Auto. it's just the DRL. your interior lights will adjust accordingly based on the outside light using the sensor on the dash. when its darker the interior dash lights will dim some. When its lighter, the inside lights will be brighter.

It's not a huge problem. Visibility is much better with them and I always forget to turn them on. Thanks.

This was one thing I put in a review way back in the early 90's or so, lights not being able to turn off. Back then you had to set the parking brake to get them off, as I recall. I like the current 'off' position here in the States.

 

There are some situations, out hunting for example, when I may be in the truck with engine on but want the lights off. I really want & like the option of easily turning off the lights.

Yes, we get some gray light rain fog days and there are the "you cannot see me" trucks and cars with no lights. Also coming from a 90 sub to an 09 SLT it took me awhile to learn that on the newer GMs the head lights come on when you turn on the wipers. Wish all mfgs did such.

Explain how you are getting fogs to come on with the head lights, the fog lights are a function controlled in the BCM now.

I don't but you could make pigtails from the headlight wire.
