TJay74 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 As I said in the other thread I am working directly with the GM engineers over the infotainment system on my radio reception issues. I/we have the attention of GM executive management, the chief truck engineer and a engineer from the infotainment system. I need to know the build date of your truck (on the bottom side of the drivers side door sill plate, silver label), how many AM channels you can tune in and what your reception issues are. I am not promising anything, I will though pass the info onto the engineer I am working with and see if there is something we can do to get this fixed. Granted we see a small percentage of owners in this forum and even less with radio reception issues, GM knows about the reception issues as the engineer told me they have heard about it and have been testing but cant figure out what it is causing the problem. The antenna on this truck is the same one from 2001 and forward, so the engineers don't think that is the main issue (I guess unless the antenna connection is not connected to the radio or is loose, dealer should be able to find that out). There was a mid production change in the radio (sometime after 12/2013) that was noticed when in a city setting with stations around, a strong signal station would cause some reception loss on the station the person was listening to. So if you have radio issues, please post the following: Build date How many AM stations you can tune in Location What your radio reception issue is EDIT - We're going to leave this topic open for posting of the requested information above only. Any nonessential / off-topic posts will be deleted! chuckl1218 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Build date 8/13/13, Silverado LTZ, IO6 Mylink (Bose radio with console sub and navigation). I am in Round Rock, TX near Austin. Weather is cloudy, windy and 67 degrees. 17 AM stations tuned in clear from inside the garage in ACC and running; 24 AM stations outside with motor running; 0 in HD. Some of the AM stations had a little static when outside (most of them were the additional ones I received when outside vs inside) Issue: FM stations fade. Same stations that were clear on my 2011 Silverado fade in and out with this truck. I can pick up the stations, they just fade as I drive around the area where they did not before in the 2011. I would describe non-HD stations as weak and HD stations lock in and then have to "acquire the signal" often since it loses the HD signal.
Arnoldthepig Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 Build date 07/13 Location: Sicklerville, NJ Radio: IO5 Mylink radio Weather: clear skies (very windy) 39 degrees 15 total AM stations come in, most have a slight static (1) comes in as HD. This was done with both the key in the accessory position and the run position without the engine running. All fm stations have some form of static when NOT in HD. ALL FM stations go in and out of HD constantly...some more than others. As I write this, I am sitting in the truck, in park with the engine running. When a strong gust of wind blows the truck, it loses HD signal....
novarox71 Posted March 26, 2014 Posted March 26, 2014 17 stations come in all with static, but one that comes in HD. Build date 6/13. Fm HD comes in and out with static. Constant HD switching. Very annoying, I live in the greater los Angeles area specifically in Orange county about 25 min south.
dmd277 Posted March 27, 2014 Posted March 27, 2014 Sierra SLT nav, non bose, build date 8-13. Upstate South Carolina 13 am radio stations, some with static. Poor FM reception, HD drops out a lot, had truck to dealer many times, compared to other 2014 GM vehicles in same location, even made video for dealer, have contacted GM. Worst FM reception on any vehicle I have owned since 1985(antenna in window) vehicle. GM please help.
tutiii Posted March 28, 2014 Posted March 28, 2014 GMC sierra All Terrain Edition Build date 07/13 Location is 20 miles North of Philadelphia FM Reception is very intermittent (GM case number 71-1258028197), HD switches in/out constantly. I receive 20 AM stations, majority are static. Listening to 93.3 FM (which I would receive in my 2011 GMC 2500HD in Dover,DE 83 miles from Philadelphia) I lose the signal at my house, I also switched to 1060am and that station was very full of static. Thanks for you help
TJay74 Posted April 10, 2014 Author Posted April 10, 2014 Sorry guys, I was on vacation last week and buried knee deep once I got back to work this week. Truck is at dealer right now, they got the new radio module in but got stuck on the TSB update for the infotainment system and was waiting on a callback from GM tech center. Said they are hoping to have the truck back to me today. I should know something by the end of the week if the fix worked. I do know the loaner truck they gave me is a build of 8/2013 and it has the same issue as my truck.
Plwtwo Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 2/14 5 AM stations tune in- 30 miles North of Atlanta Ga. FM will not lock on HD, continually switches on/off, unbearable to listen to, wish I could turn HD off! Auto-Scanning FM only gives 5 or 6 channels on a good day I have to manual tune for majority of channels Awful reception.
waumo1 Posted April 11, 2014 Posted April 11, 2014 "a strong signal station would cause some reception loss on the station the person was listening to." This problem is known as desense. It can be caused by strong signals from a close powerful station or by noise sources, often at the receiving location itself such as generated by the vehicle the receiver is in. If the vehicle has not been characterized in a rf anechoic chamber it needs to be. The receiver should have been run through the standard battery of tests for any receiver. Finding the source(s) of this problem should not be difficult. Fixing it after the fact may be.
TJay74 Posted April 11, 2014 Author Posted April 11, 2014 I got the truck back last night, hopefully will know by this weekend if the new radio module fixed the issue or not. I will let you all know once I am sure the fix worked.
hillrider Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 Todd, should we assume that the fix didn't work??? If so, I hate that.
sirbOOm Posted July 7, 2014 Posted July 7, 2014 2014 Silverado LT Z71 w/MyLink Build date: WILL UPDATE WHEN HOME How many AM stations you can tune in: 3 How many FM stations: all but always cutting in and out (just FM) and in-between HD and regular FM... always Location: Atlanta, GA, live 30 miles away from downtown at a downhill grade What your radio reception issue is:Constant switching and delay between regular FM and HD - never present in other vehicles I have and in neighbor vehicles. FM radio (non-HD) does not come in strong, even downtow, even on highways, anywhere from 0 to 40 miles from Atlanta. Was even worse in Nashville over the July 4th holiday weekend. Good luck getting much reception on rural radio stations on road trips - not much comes in, not even country or Spanish stations, like usual. When vehicle is turned off, sometimes reception improves to perfect clarity. Video example here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2xljF6VSvHg I will be video logging my FM reception often and will flood YouTube with these videos until my dealer fixes the issue. My dealer refused to consider the video as proof the issue exists and, of course, cannot "replicate a problem" there. I don't have time to go to a dealer over and over and over again for this and, after getting rid of two lemon cars prior to this at great expense in time and money to me, I'm absolutely done with poor quality.
