BAD paint chips Sierra All Terrain

I have a question. You guys put the clear bra in the bumper only?

Paid $800 for complete professional install; 3M material with replacement warranty 5-years, hardly visible. Covered areas include:

  • entire front bumper
  • foglight lens
  • lower grille/headlight surround
  • headlamp lens
  • front of hood from grille up 10" across full width
  • sides skirts, from headlight housings back forward of the front fenders, 10" aligning with hood end-seam
  • a-pillar posts
  • side view mirror, chrome topsides
  • door edge guards

Performance; I live in Alaska, lots of rocks on the road. In 5k miles, 1-one small chip on side mirror chrome topside, couple small "ticks" on the chrome grille surround (not covered with film) but entire front end remains clear of any sign of chips. Worth every penny!

My bumper doesn't have a scratch. I had the protective film done on it. My upper bumper(plastic), which had to be repainted, has one chip out of it. I haven't had time to get it done, now that the paint has had time to breathe.

I have a 2014 GMC All Terrain w/ 5K miles & it also has approx. 15 chips on the front bumper - the painted metal part only. I live in FL, no salt or road sand, & I don't sit & drive behind tractor trailer or dump trucks on the highway. I've written GM & haven't received a response back yet. It seems the factory didn't either prep the bumpers correctly before they were painted or didn't use ant flex-agent in the paint. I REFUSE to have my truck bumper repainted & an requesting a factory replacement. ------ Anyone have any luck with GM calling them back?

front of my all terrain looks like someone glued a bunch of black nerds to it from the chips. got to be at least 15-20 of them, mostly from bugs on the highway this summer.

My Silverado is getting redone tomorrow on my dime, I didn't count the chips in the bumper, my guess would be over 150, 17,000 miles

I have a 2014 GMC All-Terrain with 15,000 miles. The front bumper looks like it has 100,000 miles on it. Chips on the bumper and hardly anything else on the rest of the front end. This is a prep and paint issue nothing else. Hoping that GM will look after this issue.

How much are you paying? I had a quote for repainting the front bumper that was about $497.

thank you for this post, I am so frustrated with GM as I am having the same problem. black 2014 gmc all terrain front metal bumpers paint is chipping off in flecks about dime size or better. Local Dealer said tough and im sol. Dealer sold it to me said bring it back and he would see what he could do but it sounds like rock chips. I've had 30 trucks never had a bumper look like this. Anyone find resolution to this? What a sad representation by gm.

If the paint is flaking off in pieces as large as a dime, then the surface was not prepared properly before painting the bumper. Chips from gravel would be tiny in comparison.

Well... No props to GM for taking ownership of this problem but a HUGE thanks and Props to a local dealer (after giving up on the one 2 blocks from my home). Took the truck in for an odd noise I was getting in the rear suspension and ended up getting new leafs shocks, rear end rebuilt, and new driveshaft/yolks. They rebuilt my steering column (the first dealer sent me home with a steering column that would come loose- yes it'd just twist not just the wheel the whole column!). They also had to redo a recall because the dang thing would roll in park, the first dealer didn't correct it the way they were supposed to.

Anyway while I'm in service dropping off the truck for these repairs,a body guy walked by my truck and asked what was up with my front bumper. I told him I was so upset about it and he asked if they could have gm repaint it at their cost!!! I was thrilled!!! As it turns out tho they found 15 es 15 layers of paint on that front bumper. I BOUGHT IT NEW!!! So gm denied the cost, dealer ate it and my bumper looks like new.

I was told he has never seen that many layers on a new truck, however he has

seen them fix a blemish and paint over the repairs, but never that many coats!

Not sure how I feel about my plan to keep this truck forever(also found out its had hail damage repairs, and was told likely with the front bumper and rear end repairs something else had happened to it but no disclosure)

Just thought I'd share my update, and let ya all know there are good dealers out there, man I was losing hope.

FYI its a 2014 SLT ALL TERRAIN with 16,000 miles on it today
