I'm issued a Glock 22 .40cal at work. I've easily put over 10,000 round through it over the last 10 years ... Never a problem, but can remember only two miss-feeds ... I truly like the Glock, but I'm not a huge gun guy ...

We are issued the same. Get to pick either the G22 or G23, I went for more capacity since I am accurate with both models. Carry the G23 off duty.

My agency is switching back to 9mm again shortly so I will be carrying a G17 on duty.

After many thousands of rounds testing, and modern ammunition, there is no advantage to .40 over 9mm, or .45acp. Most people are more accurate with the tamer recoil of the 9mm too, plus a few more rounds never hurts.

I have found, at least with practice ammo, that .40 penetrates car doors better than both .9 and .45.

Not looking to get into any type of caliber war but the govt. testing did show with the defense/duty ammo we will be using, there is very little to no difference. Not sure what ammo, they haven't mentioned that in the memo that was sent out about the caliber change.

I have also thought, and noticed that the high pressure of the .40rd. does seem to be a better choice for vehicle doors. I don't do scientific testing though.

The .357sig round seems better on doors also. Guess they figure since we also have M4's and shotgund in the vehicle rack, that will take care of whatever we may need to shoot through??

I couldn't get in an educated argument over calibers if I wanted to. I only mention the perceived advantage because we try and bring vehicles in once a year for vehicle assault training. we have used mannequins or just IPSC targets in the cab, and test trajectory changes through the windshields, windows, and doors. Not scientific by any stretch but we seemed to get more penetration and hits on target using .40. having rifles is the solution for sure, but in my line of work at least, I don't exit the car with it every time. Nothing wrong with .9mm though. It will get the job done.

Caliber wars are old and tiring. They are all made to perform to the same specs. One might "perform" better than the other but I wouldn't want to get shot by anything and the person being shot isn't exactly going to laugh because you hit him with a 9mm instead of a 45. There are stories about people taking multiple shots and still not going down with all of the primary calibers. Just use what you shoot best and be done with it. If you want a sure thing just run the turd over with your truck :) Having said that I'm still a huge fan of 357 mag and it's near endless versatility when doing hand loads.
