TPMS relearn after every tire rotation?

"To read correctly, the sensor learn procedure must be performed any time the PDM is replaced, a tire sensor is replaced, or after the vehicle's tires have been rotated."

Is this something that needs to be done every time I get an oil change and tire rotation. How long does this process take at the dealer? I had my 1st free oil change and tire rotation and later noticed that my TPMS readings in my DIS looked lower than usual. The next morning I took readings at 6:30 am before I drove the truck. The DIS reading were about 3 to 4 lbs lower than the readings using a tire gauge. I asked the dealer to perform a TPMS sensor re-learn. It took the tech about 10 minutes.

Yes it needs to be done every time you move a tire from one axle to another. Each wheel has an individual sensor and if they are moved from the current learned position they need to be relearned in their new position so the tpms readout on your dash shows the correct locations for each tire pressure.

As for the lower pressure readings, what kind of air pressure gauge are you reading with? The pressures will always drop over night as the air outside cools. Also they will rise as the air outside gets warmer.

The relearn procedure takes almost no time at all, like you saw about 10 minutes.

The re-learn has no bearing on sensor accuracy versus your own tire gauge, it only tells the vehicle where the tire sensors is located at on the vehicle.

Dealer or any tire shop can do the re-learn process.

Every Time You Rotate Tires You Have To Relearn The The Sensors. It Only Takes A Minute To Relearn Sensors. I Do It Myself Everytime. Very Easy To Do.

Can you give the procedure? I was told on this new model it had to be done w/ a tech tool, no DIY method?? Thanks

I Haven't Tried The Old Method. Have Yall Looked In The Manual?

When I Get Home Thursday I Can Find Out For Sure And Do DIY For Everyone.

As of 2014 you cant use the manual procedure on the GM vehicles, either have to go to the dealer or buy a TPMS tool online.

The above posts are right:

"Changes to the Service Procedure -
GM Product Engineering has determined that in some instances the manual re-learn
procedure can cause the TPM system to pick up stray sensor signals from nearby vehicles
which can result in Diagnostic Trouble Codes being stored and parts being unnecessarily
replaced. To address this concern GM Product Engineering will be disabling the TPM
manual re-learn capability from the vehicle software starting January 2011.
A Special Service Tool is needed to perform TPMS Re-Learn
Due to the changes in vehicle software, a Special Service Tool is required to perform the
TPMS Re-learn procedure.
If your dealership currently has the EL-46079 (J-46079), you can continue to use this
tester for the Re-Learn procedure.
If your dealership does Not Have a special service tool to perform the re-learn procedure,
it is important that you purchase the new lower cost tool (EL-50448) that will perform the
Re-Learn function. "

I got one of the kent-Moore relearn tools and it is super easy to use. It took literally 2mins from start to finish

This is what I have and use as well. Super easy.
