Unwanted Transfer Case Shift to Neutral Recall

Transfer case can (possibly) just randomly shift to neutral. On GM's recall checker, it's listed as Other:

 

Other programs are initiated by GM to remedy a condition not subject to a recall

 

So, apparently not a full recall yet, but was listed as that when I checked my vin at:

FYI Jeep issued this same recall last year and the software patch killed 4-low and neutral options. Owners get a "service 4x4" error when trying to shift their tcase after the recall was performed.

 

Google "N23 issue"

 

And if anyone here has family or friends with a 2005-2010 Grand Cherokee or Commander, tell them to test their 4-low. They won't know it's an issue until they try it (or until they try selling it and the prospective buyer tries it!)

I was reading about this last night. Just went to GM owners site and logged on. At first I only saw the message for the transmission line recall which was already done. Then just for the heck of it I clicked on the recall button itself. Shocked to see, mines on the list. It's a full recall if yours is on the list. I imagine I'll be getting an email soon. Took a while to get the official letter on the transmission line recall. This one bothers me a little. The other 2 recalls didn't concern me much.

Do they use the same t case? I heard of that Jeep mess but if they're not using the same hardware it may just be a fluke that GM has a similar recall.

The case and internals are different but the shift motors likely function very similar (I know both have similar encoder sensors). Its possible the electronics come from the same company and GM is playing a bit of CYA.

 

Just be cautious with this one. I wouldn't be the first in line at the dealership to get the update. Currently there's no fix from the jeep side so people are calling junkyards to get pre-recall modules and putting them in.

Just talked to my dealer this morning. They have had this recall info for "about a week and a half" to quote the service manager. I made an appointment Thursday for them to check my dash light dimmer. No mention of recall. I called yesterday to cancel the appointment (after reading the manual ). Still no mention of recall! Unbelievable!!

I'm on the list and using my parking brake. I have a dealer visit on Monday... maybe they can do the recall then... :/

I'm not worried about it. I always use my parking brake no matter what and I have over 5200 neutral free miles. This is just GM being extra cautious given all of their safety and recall problems. I'll get it looked at eventually but I'm not losing any sleep over it.

I punched in my VIN, and my truck is on the recall.

 

They also still have the transmission cooling lines on there too. My dealer must not have notified GM yet? I had it taken care of almost 3 months ago. I received te recall letter for the lines earlier this month, called the dealer to make sure they reported it to GM.

 

I guess I need to give them another call for this now. Good thing I don't have to park on any hills.

 

The thing about all these programs is, after the last one my mileage sucked for quite a while.

 

I'm not digging all this technology and updates. What if our truck gets a bug, and really flips out? Then what??? Are we going to hear those famous words, "that's normal"?

I am really getting tired of taking my truck in every other month for recalls . I had a hummer h3 before this truck and they are one of the few that hasn't been recalled. Maybe because they don't make them anymore? I am just going to wait until my next oil change and have it done then . I am sure there will be another recall by then ! Lol

I use the parking brake already. Loss of acceleration capability in some random scenario would be the major concern I guess. I'm due for an oil change anyway.

17000 miles and no problems yet. I park daily on a slight incline, I'll start using the parking brake just in case. I'm in no hurry to make a special trip to the dealer to get that fixed.
