Salesman riding with on a test drive?

So I went and drove a new Sierra and a new F150 yesterday and both dealers said they have a policy where the salesman has to ride along. Personally I don't like it but in yesterdays case for just the initial test drive I went along with it. Once I really get seriously in the next couple weeks there is no way I want the salesman to go with me on an extensive test drive. If they insist on riding along again I am going to have to find another dealer. When I bought my Cruze Diesel I drove how many cars and the salesman never once hinted that he was going to come along.

Trust me, they don't want to go along with you or be outside for that matter when it's 110 degrees outside...unfortunately it's their job. This is just the car buying process my friend, you can bounce from dealer to dealer and I assure you it will be the same wherever you go. A good dealership will ask you if you want to take the car home for the night before buying. This will allow you alone time with the truck, make sure its fits in the garage, etc etc etc. At the end of the day the sales consultant is doing what he's told and trying to make a living at the same time, don't hate the player...hate the game.

Shop around. Plenty of dealers in Texas that want to make a sale and just toss you the keys after an ID check. I like two test drives. One about 30 minutes and then once the deal is decided on, another for 4 hours plus test drive. Sometimes overnight if close to closing time. You are on the dealer's gas & warranty does not start until you take delivery.

I drove my truck for about 5 miles and my camaro I never even sat in it. Went in did the deal and left

Our salesman always just gets us a plate, and the keys, and lets us take off. Even did this the first time I went there.

I have had a mixed bag. With my truck (factory ordered) the salesman went with so we could chit chat. That was the 3rd vehicle I bought from him so I didnt care. Before I ordered the 2010 they let me take on out for a ride. On the camaro the saleslady went with, i didnt care she knew I wasnt interested in that particular car, probably why she went with?

In some aspects it's nice to have the sales guy go with you. For instance they can explain the features of the vehicle etc but, I don't like talking $$ while we're on the test drive.

My salesman tossed me the keys and said have fun. Stayed gone about 3 hours test driving and showing the truck to friends. Returned and signed the papers. No biggie from my dealer.

Some do some don't. Back when I was at the dealer I told the sales guy I was considering an F150 and I just signed out a plate, found one I liked and pulled the key from the vault and went for a ride. Ended up buying a Chevy in the end though.

What kept you out of an F150? I like the interior of the 2011 Lariat we have over a gmt900 loaded out LT with leather. chrome for chrome the F150 looks better than the silverado, and to me the FX2 or FX4 compared to the Z71 appearance us close with the silverado bsrely taking that one for me

In 2004 it was cost and the fact a RCSB F150 with the 5.4 was a dog even compared to the 4.8 1500 I ended up buying. In 2011, it was due to the stupid forced console shifter on a FX4, the only trim I liked. Total waste of space.

I was a Toyota guy for years and always bought from the same guy, he always went, was never an option. I went to look at my new Silverado and the salesman knew I was coming, had everything ready for a test drive and handed me the keys. Told me he would get a trade value for mine while I was gone. Best and easiest trade I have ever done.

The last 3 trucks I bought 01,09, and 14. I did not drive them till I signed and drove off the lot. I guess I got lucky. I did drive a silverado this time around before buying my GMC and the salesman went with me.

They just copied my ID and threw me the keys for my 2006.

Wow. I didnt know you couldn't get a leather bench on the FX4. The lariat we have has a leather bench, thats why I compare it to an LT

No bench at all. Leather is an option and one I'd never get. Don't care for leather. Cold in the winter and hot in the summer. Lariat is more comparable to an LTZ/SLT anyhow. XLT is closest to LT/SLE.
