To Replace Current Truck, New One Or Used??

If my current '03 Sierra is needing a trans and/or differential, thinking about replacing it (paint is not the greatest either). Thinking about a newer used (2010 on up) or a no-frills new one. Now, since my '03 is the last vehicle i bought new, are there any thoughts either way on used or new? I know each GM truck that comes along has its' share of issues, I had the 706 head casting issues on mine, already had to replace a trans in it in 2010, front end noise, paint.....

Thats a decision for you and your budget. I would never buy a brand new truck. Prices are nuts. Find a nice one a few years old with 50,000 miles for 1/2 price of new. My 2 cents.

I hear ya...I do not miss having that monthly payment, but Major mechanical and paint work, getting to think something fresher would be in order. I have enough other projects without this truck being one of them any more than it is.


Appears the extended cab is becoming a thing of the past as well........

I am with 8.1. Buy a used one a couple of years old with 50000 miles is one hell of a price break and still have some power train warranty to help with an expensive repair if there is an issue.

Buying new is about 40K. That is almost a third of what my house cost in 1991, crazy. I agree, buy used, get it checked by a mechanic you trust. they pick up on things we dont. Well worth 1/2 hour labor.

Don't go no-frills. The GMT900s have some really great features/options. Call me soft or a sissy, but I like my back up camera, heated seats, remote start, power folding mirrors and power tailgate.

If the truck needs only a trans and a paint job and everything else is solid (frame, body) then I'd put the $$ into the current truck and keep right on going. It beats having a car payment if the truck is otherwise reliable. That's what my plan is, drive this until it's no longer driveable, fix it up and drive it again.

Start looking or a 2012-2013 6.2l (w/o AFM) and leather seating surfaces IMHO.

Almost what I bought. 2011 Silverado LTZ, 6.2, 16.5K miles. I had to buy an LTZ to get the 6.2 That's all I was finding the 6.2 in. BUY USED!

But someone has to buy the new ones, so there will be used ones for me!

I always buy new because I know what I got versus buying used and not knowing what you got. You never know buying used if you buying someone elses problem.

 

Buying used sometimes is almost having the same payments as buying new because of the interest rate some carry 5.9 and up on used vehicles. Used vehicles depending on age will have a higher interest rate versus new having like 0% so sometimes your payment will be cheaper due to the interest rate on new vehicles.

Depends where you are located.

Where I live 2 or 3 year old trucks are going for about 80% of new cost - so not much savings.

Not worth it to buy used over new.

Earlier this year I bought a used 2013 Silverado LTZ 4x4 6.2L with only 10K miles with $2K worth of add ons for $32K. This truck new is close to $50K. I wanted the 6.2L so I would NOT have the AFM.
