Are there 2 versions of INTELLILINK?

I have a new 2014 GMC Sierra with the 8" touch screen and turn by turn nav. I have a few questions about the intellilink sytem. I know Jeep has 2 different types of Uconnect systems. A 3.0 and a 4.0, the 4.0 has more features such as wifi hot spot and weather and traffic updates, etc.

Does GMC have the same thing? I've noticed I dont have an actual map when I go to my nav screen (which would be nice) doesn't have nearby fuel stations, weather and traffic updates, wifi, and overall I feel as though it lacks a lot of features that should be standard on a $45k truck. (I had all of these features on a $25k Ford Fusion)

Am i missing something or does the intellilink leave a lot to be desired?

Is there any upgrades to software that could enable more features?

Thanks,

There are two different Intellilink systems. One version has a built in navigation/mapping and the other uses OnStar turn-by-turn "navigation".

IMHO, you are overpaying by getting the full nav version of the system. Modern smartphones can do mapping, traffic, and fuel pricing significantly better than the in-car versions and will always be up to date.

I've tinkered with many of the "infotainment" systems on the market. IMO, SYNC is a noticeably worse experience than Intellilink on a daily-driver basis. Uconnect is better laid out and more responsive but does not add any notable features over either version of Intellilink.

GM has the core features down but still needs to figure out how to package and present better.

I think the turn by turn NAV is via OnStar, if you had the NAV thru the infotainment center you will have a NAV app listed in the main options screen.

You have that button with or without the navigation option. I ordered my truck fully loaded without navi and I still have the navigation button on the main page. If I hit it, it shows me a blown up compass (sometimes more helpful that the actual navigation system)

Cheaper cars have better features to help sell them. The trucks are going to sell anyway. The goal here is to get you to upgrade. I would like to have just a V8 with leather, and knobs instead of duel climate controls, all the buttons ect.. But NO, you gotta buy the whole nine yards. Check out the Intellilink in the Spark or Speck or whatever it is called. Just as good if not better than ours.

For anyone viewing this thread with the same question as I had I found the answer here adding-navigation-to-intellilink-mylink-system

My Nav in my Cruze was much nicer than the truck.

I think the biggest complaint is that the navigation in a $49 prepaid android smartphone blows the $800 mylink nav (and just about every other car manufacturer's offering) out of the water. It's 2014, nav is cheap and people can do it one hell of a lot better than you, GM. Evolve already.

I said I won't pay for the NAV after the Cruze but all of the leftover SLT's I could find with the options I wanted had it. I agree it is BS that it is not better, hopefully they will have an update soon to correct this. I still love the truck, best vehicle I have ever owned.

If you venture into your NAV settings you will find the options to turn on POI's (Points of Interest). You can select different categories like fuel, restaurant etc. It's in there you just need to mess around with it a bit.

Entire Intellilink system is both too complex and lacking in several obvious features. Need Jennifer to ride along until I learn how to use this thing! Had my truck for 6 weeks and 2300 miles and am a long way from comfortable with Intellilink.

Anyone know how to connect a (SanDisk or similar) MP3 player to Intellilink?
