2015 Silverado Vibrations?

20Bowtie14, unless they did not know the driveshaft sound deadening material was the culprit. You may have replaced the driveshaft 3 times however if they did not fix root cause, they may have been 3 suspect driveshafts.

I wonder if there is an upgrade in the shafts or a revision that was made at some point in manufacturing.

I will say this, I've seen in on here and a couple of other forums now of people with vibration issues getting fixed by replacing the drive shaft.

Apparently there is some sound deadening material in the shafts and it is braking apart which causes the shaft to go out of balance..

So there may now be a fix that works...

I believe you are referring to this post.

http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/153186-shake-or-vibration-issues/?p=1480340

.................................................................................................I took my drive shaft to a drive line place to have the balance checked, when spinning up on the balancer, I could hear something inside the drive shaft bouncing around until just the right RPM and then the object stopped moving and the drive shaft was out of balance. We stopped the drive shaft and re-spun it. The same noise was heard and when the object stopped moving, the machine required a different amount of weight to balance the shaft. Each time we spun up the drive shaft, a different weight was required and some times no weight. What I found out is that there is a sound resonator in the drive shaft that prevents noise from resonating through the drive line, some drive line manufacturers use a cardboard cylinder with a seem cut in it and others use a rubberized foam. both are compressed, shoved into the driveshaft, and then are supposed to re-coil and fit tight. Based on the sound, it sounds like my drive shaft resonator was made of cardboard and has been progressively breaking apart every time I drive the truck. I have since taken my truck into the dealer and they are replacing the drive shaft. Hopefully this will be the end of this problem. I posted this in hopes that it could help others out there.

LOTS of 14s out there that DONT vibrate, we get it , really, we do.

Those of you that have smooth riding trucks dont have to post it in the vibration threads, really, you dont. We got it.

It's funny that that is how you take it. THe reason why I am in the vibration threads is because I am terrified it will happen to me. Not because I am gloating.

If posting the build date can give anyone some sort of clue as to which trucks report the vibration, then I'd say that's solid info.

Settle down, sir.

X2 well said and my exact feelings . Being a new owner I too am worried about this issue and I'm extremely happy I'm not experiencing it "Knock on wood ". But on the other hand I really really feel bad for those that are and can only imagine how frustrating it could be .

The main reason for my post was to share my info for a possible comparison to what vehicles are and aren't having the issue including there build dates and models /motor size .

I do understand though how a select few might feel frustrated because there having issues and others aren't and want to vent . It's also good to be advised of others that aren't having issues and like mentioned by a previous poster it really is a small % of vehicles doing it .

But if you come on to a forum and see some folks that are it can be alarming . You just have to remember how many 1000's of truck owners that are not experiencing it compared to the very small percentage on forums . I've owned many vehicles , Home Theater and 2 Channel audio systems using forums for knowledge and sharing our passions . But with that being said there's always going to negatives posts and unhappy owners no matter what , always.

I dont go into every problem thread and post, "My truck doesnt do that".

Some people feel the need to do so. Other people see that and subsequently also feel the need to say, "Mine doesnt do that either".

Its not that Im unsettled, I simply dont care for it.

It derails threads, clouds issues, wastes bandwidth and usually contributes nothing to the original subject and then requires wading through all the "My truck doesnt do that" and "Hey I like your truck" and "What kind of lift and wheels are those" posts to read the real replies that do contribute and relay useful information.

Posts like that used to be called thread hijacking and it was frowned upon and people actually apologized for it at times. Now its just "I can post whatever I want and ******* you if you dont like it".

If you believe your 2014 build date is relevant to the original discussion,

2015 Silverado Vibrations?,

then by all means, post away.

I have no power over what anyone posts, Im merely stating my opinion. Like it or not.

You have a point regarding the 2015 thread. That's my bad.

I stand by my previous statement as to why posting the build date in a thread re 2014's would be helpful.

Please keep in mind you read about this issue here but the actual number of trucks out there with a vibration issue is very very small percentage.

Probably the reason GM is buying them back. If it was a big issue they would be handling it much different.

The people with the issue or issues in general tend to find the forums when they are seeking out help and support which we all like to give.

But it creates a picture of a bigger issue than it really is some times.

My truck has only gone in for to get a fog light replaced and that was just defective bulb. I noticed the first day I had the truck.

These are my exact thoughts and I've believed this since day 1 of owning my "no-vibration" 2014 crew cab silverado! This is what I've been trying to say, but you stated it perfectly.

BTW... don't make this statement over in the "Shake and vibration issues" thread! You'll get your head chopped off! I've already been called "Mr. Perfect-Truck!" (among other not so nice comments)...

No worries Luster, we love you with or without a vibration.

so does that mean the vibration guys will stay out of every thread about a non vibrating Issue?

we get it, your truck vibrates. we get it

Damn dude, your one of the biggest nut swinging gm fan bois I have ever met.

In every problem thread you show up and contribute absolutely nothing but make people feel bad when they post a issue

Isn't it ironic that sometimes the least expensive truck such as yours turns out to be the least problematic one? Some posters here paid probably twice as much as you for their crew cab 4X4 LTZ trucks with the 6.2 liter V8 and have nothing but headaches with their trucks.

This is true sometimes simplicity is your friend :) I really do love this truck !

Hello everyone! I'm strongly considering selling my F250 and buying a '15 Silverado but have been hesitant mainly because of the vibration issues I've been reading about.

It's probably a little early but.....have you guys heard of anyone with a '15 that does, or does not have vibration problems?

Thank you

My 2015 is smooth as butter.

    • Just did an injector/HPFP replacement on Pepper at 192,400 miles; close enough to 200K, RIGHT? (If 200K is considered life end and to me it isn't). But hey, to each his own.    Have never run a catch can on this vehicle. Back side of every valve looked like a new valve spray painted semigloss black. Port walls looked 'neat' (all a normal result of passive EGR via VVT) Zero build up even in AFM cylinders. Just color. It uses no measurable oil and never has.    At 155,000 I put her on E-85 and a borescope of the cylinders at plug change showed very clean pistons and valve faces. The replaced injector tips looked new. (It was the pump piston seal that was leaking). Oh well, have six good backups.    Still gets 28 mpg on gas (highway average) and over 20 (highway) on alky. UOA's look good and runs as good now as it did when I bought it. Better in fact.    What improvement would a Catch Can provide this motor?     And given all this I expect that IF I installed one I'd see some water/gas/oil vapor accumulation. Byproducts of normal combustion.   Having said that, IF my motor used an appreciable amount of oil I'd consider it a useful 'crutch' until I had the situation corrected OR if bore polished, until I junked it or rebuilt it to stave off repeated plug fouling.    I'm not telling you what I THINK. But what its DONE.
    • Love the look. I'm a SCSB lover myself.    Two items. 1.) A spacer changes scrub radius but this also changes when we use wheels of different offsets. A little isn't a big deal. 2.) Steel wheels, alloy wheels all have different thickness. Same effect on the stud and lug nut as a spacer. When hub centric the wheel isn't supported by the stud. It's supported by the hub. The stud just keeps it all together.
    • I had a evap sol go bad a couple weeks ago. . I replaced it.  While watching live data at the time I saw I had some cylinder 1 misfires. No MIL but on live data I could see ~50 at startup and about 70 more after an hour a drive all on cyl 1.  I also noticed that the LTFT were -5% to -15% always.  And that bank 2 is always -3% richer than bank 1. Even across all driving modes, city, highway, etc it’s always 3% richer than bank 1. So I start with the misfire. Swapped coil, plug, and plug wires from 1 to 3. No follow. I got an Injector reseal kit, pulled the D/s injector rail, swapped #1 and #3 injectors, resealed them, reinstalled and retested.  The misfire followed to 3. So I ordered and replaced all 8 injectors, spark plugs, and plug wires. Also replaced the 1 time use fuel pipes under the intake manifold.  Injectors that were in the truck since new were  Part # 12668390.  I replaced them with # 12742701 Got from RockAuto. Pretty certain they’re genuine and the correct ones. I called a friend at a parts store who told me “the 12742701 were the correct superseded part # for the originals I was replacing”. So started truck after replacing all that and it’s running -15 - -30 LTFTs. I reset the fuel trims with GDS2 and drove it for a 60 miles trip each way. There have been no changes in the LTFTs.  I checked if the HPFP was leaking into the crankcase. I removed the pvc and watched the trims. No difference.  I checked the alcohol content and it was at 10%  I’m out of ideas here. Truck seems to run great. Just always rich on the fuel trims.  Anyone with any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.  I ran an injector balance test just for the heck of it and it came back this. I’m confused.  I have gds2 and some other diag tools if anyone knows of anything I should test next.
