2014 Silverado LTZ Projector Headlight Whiteout Project

Well I was on the fence about what I wanted to do with my headlights, either chrome Anzos or do them myself with a custom white housing. After seeing a lot of the live SEMA coverage and all the white 14+ Silverados with custom white housings I was possessed to give it a shot. Here are some pics and tips along the way…

 

Another member gave instructions for 15 min @ 225 degrees. The headlights were not even close to budging afterwards, so I decided to use TSR’s (The Retrofit Source) instructions for Permaseal style headlights which was 23 min @ 270 degrees. This made things MUCH easier and wish I would have started with this. It would have saved me re-heating the other way 4 times and A LOT of frustration!

Bezels removed and reflectors shaved…and I say shaved because I took the time to plastic weld / putty the reflector mounting holes for a smooth clean look. I was surprised by some of the SEMA pics where they didn’t do this and it looked “lazy” in my opinion.

As much as I've been searching around, I can not find any direct information on the best way to remove the headlight housing out of the truck. I've found the 2 10mm bolt on top and one that is right inside the grill, inboard of the light. What am I missing?

you need to remove the painted piece that spans the width of the fron the truck. It covers 2 more bolts on the bottom of the headlights. After all 4 bolts have been removed there is a clip in the bracket where the top outter screw was that keeps the headlight from just falling out when there are no bolts holding it. Once you undo the clip the headlight will be completely free

I usually finagle it until it unclips itself on the sides, I'm sure that there is a proper (better) wawy to do so. As for the center of it you can reach the clips from under the truck. They are body colored so for someone with a white truck like mine they will stick out. For a dark color you may not see them right away

Oh boy. My truck is a 2015 High Country. The body colored bumper is one piece, all the way up to the light housing. I don't have that strip like your truck has between the bumper and the housing. Back to square one... Unless someone here knows what the next step is, shy of taking the bumper completely off... :-(

Well, I hafta say it turned out lookin really good.

 

I think you had a poll on this and I thought it looked better with some contrast but.. that's a hard look to turn away from.

 

Are you planning to paint the sharks fin? I've heard on '15s they are paint color.

 

Wasn't this kind of a risky project? I've been looking for a set of projectors but they're something like $650 EACH! You over bake em and you're out $1300! Was this your only set? Or did you buy another set to test on?

Hadn't thought about the shark fin, but that is the second comment on that and now has me thinking it is a must.

 

It was a VERY risky project, and to be honest the only thing that persuaded me was seeing all the pics from SEMA last week and there were at least 3 white silverados with custom white headings. I had been on the fence about getting Anzos, and my thought process was I can risk taking mine apart and only spend $30 on materials but worst case if I do screw them up (and yes it would suck to loose them) I would just spend the money on the Anzos anyway. Luckily I came out on top.

 

And just fyi, althought they aren't "OEM" a company did just release aftermarket OEM style projectors for around $500 for the set. This kind of eased my worries as well.
