I guess you yourself doesn't have a real truck either then since you have a crew cab standard bed 2500 (3/4 ton). I've had an 8 foot bed before and never used it to it's potential I guess you could say. I mainly use mine for hauling and still only need the standard 6+' bed. The only time I had a standard bed and wished I had an 8 footer was when I would help someone move, but a big enough job they just rented a uhaul trailer.

Correct. I have a toolbox in the front of the box, and the small space left **sses me of all the time.

I still wish I had an ext cab long box.

I wouldn't mind another 8' bed, but I'm fine with the standard 6.5' and I don't think I would use the bed enough to actually need the extra 1'-1.5'. It's no way I could let myself have a short bed. For one, I need a toolbox and a full width (from front to back) and with a short bed I wouldn't be able to get a full width box. Also long beds are rare now it seems, at least with 1/2 tons. Before GM offered a crew cab and standard bed on the 1500s I said if I ever needed a full crew cab I would get a 2500 just to be able to get the standard 6.5' bed with a crew cab. A buddy has an 06 Sierra crew cab short bed and he doesn't even have a toolbox, but I would hate to see how much bed he has left if he did get a box (unless it was a narrow box).

I actually agree with you, but I couldn't resist after your dissing of those that like the 'short' bed.....

I know it's cool. I wasent dissing them just giving my thoughts.

You are correct about a toolbox with the 5'8" bed. A tool box in the short bed leaves just enough room for a beer cooler. Not much else. If you have a fish cooler, well, maybe. I was in the same mode of thinking 2500 series if I stayed GM. Problem was, if I did go that route, I'd have to get the Duramax/Allison combo just because. That'd been a lot more coin than settling for a Ram or Ford 1500 CC with 6.5' bed!

The 8 ft bed proponents always say:"you can't even haul a sheet of plywood in that 6 1/2 ft bed.

I say this: "I never had much call to haul sheets of plywood. But when I did, it seemed to get the job done. I hauled 150 sheets of plywood in my 6 1/2 ft bed when I did my roof. How many sheets of plywood have you had in that 8 ft bed?"

I installed an amp research bed extender to give me 8' when I need it...and a place to keep groceries when I don't. Without the 6.5' bed...I wouldn't be able to load all the bikes when we go camping. (full size mountain bikes are pretty long)

Drive my truck daily in NYC and I don't think I'd want to manage a 6.5 yet alone the full 8' (I know- not an option with a CC). First truck/SUV for me, but 10,000 miles in 6months has made me pretty good at parallel parking and general maneuverability thru traffic. I have a low-profile tool box/headache rack and there have only been a few times when I've had to drop the gate. The 10" of space under the box is invaluable though.

The truck's proportions look better with the long bed in crew cab. But if the primary mission is mall crawling and heavy hauling at the grocery store , then the short bed gets the nod.

What's frustrating is seeing how misaligned the beds are. You can see it by following the lower third body creases. The long es exacerbates it; not all have this problem, but the majority do. It's less prevalent on the 2500s.

No regrets from me. When this body style came out, that was exactly what i wanted, a crew cab and standard size bed. Finally got it on Veteran's Day, very fitting for me for the day and deal I got it for.

Well actually 1 regret, somebody already swiped my driverside taillight and scraped the bed. But that is not my fault.
