Crew cab with 6.5' bed, regrets?

I realize this is a totally subjective question and every truck owner has their own personal preferences, unique needs. I am really just trying to flush out any con’s that I may have overlooked prior to ordering a new truck.

I have owned both 2005 and 2008 Sierra Denali trucks. Both had the 5’8” beds. There were times when I wished I had a longer bed, mostly due to buying lumber or loading a snowmachine in the back and having both hang over the tailgate. But the shorter bed sure was nice for every day driving. Now I have a 2013 Ram ¾ ton truck with the 6.5’ bed and find it very handy, but it sucks whenever I am in the city trying to find a place to park it. So now I’m torn between the two options…. I’m also not terribly keen on the appearance of the smaller ½ ton crew cab trucks with the longer bed. They just appear a bit awkward looking, whereas with the larger 3/4 ton trucks, the 6.5' bed does not have quite the awkward appearence that the smaller 1/2 ton's have.

Decisions, decisions…..

So I recon I’m just throwing this out there to get a feel for any other quirks these new trucks may have with the longer bed. Are they holding up OK? Do you have any regrets buying one, and were wishing you would have stuck with the shorter bed?

No regrets at all. I knew it would be large and difficult to park in tight quarters when I bought it. I wouldn't have a CC without the 6.5' bed. That's why I waited for GM to make a half-ton version. If not, I'd be in a Ram or Ford.

I actually think it looks odd w/ the short bed, the long bed makes it look bad arse, remember, these new CC's have a wider cab overall compared to the last generation w/ longer doors, so the long bed looks better IMO. Its a truck, not an SUV, may as well get as much bed length as you can!

Never had a crew cab. I don't find a problem if the truck is only half a foot longer, just have to get used to it. My double cab is a tad longer than my old 98 ext cab standard bed and I didn't even notice the difference. But, I also used to drive big commercial trucks including a truck with a 24.5' flatbed. I've also don't have a problem driving it around town including parallel parking.

REAL trucks have an 8' box. :)

Just sayin...

I'm convinced..... Going with the 6.5' bed. That is something that I was looking for last year, but started to have second thoughts. I need to just remember all the times I had the shorter bed and wished I had a longer one. Thanks for the sanity check! :happysad:

I bought the double cab with the 6.5 bed and like it, BUT I sat in the back seat the other day, very uncomfortable for an adult. It would be fine maybe for short trips, but I would hate to ride very far.

Good move. To me any of the GM 14/15's look more balanced with the 6.5' bed over the short bed. Each has there own followers and situations that might influence bed length, to much is better than not enough.
