Wanting to run a BDS 4" lift with 35"s on 22"s

I'm looking into the BDS 4" lift kit and it says 35x12.50s are doable with a 5.75" backspace on a 20"x9" wheel. If I run the 22"x9" CK158 with a 5mm spacer that brings the backspace to 5.75" so the 35x12.50R22s should fit just right, correct?

 

Any suggestions for this setup? Should I consider a gear swap from 3.42 to 4.10 for better performance and economy with 35"s?

 

I'm going back and forth between this and the RC 2.5" level kit with 33"s. I know the cost difference is huge and I'll have to watch where I park, including my own garage, so I'm weighing that with the looks of the lift.

Yes to the gear swap, I plan to do so this summer after I get my 4" Zone w/ 35s on stock 20x9s.

 

As for the spacer, I can't imagine that 5mm will make that big of a difference. In this case, the 5mm is negligible.

Here's a truck very close to what I want, 3.5" lift on 33"s. He's running 2" spacers though.

I really don't want to go that high. I looked at a truck with a 6" and I just thought it was a little too much. Maybe I could just stick with 33"s, but man, I bet 35"s would look tits.

35s Would look great! I'm planning to get some this Christmas so I can post a pic to show a 4" with 35s. I know there's a few members here in the suspension thread that have 4" with 33s and a very few have 35s on a 4".

 

I must agree with you on the 6". It's just a bit high to me as well. At 5'6", I don't want to climb up that high every time I want to get in and out of my truck. Take a leap of faith when you get out too haha.

Here's the problem with doing a 4" BDS and 1.75" spacers upfront. There will be no way to bring the rears out far enough to be able to match the front track width anymore, unless you want to double up on spacers but I can't imagine that would be a good idea at all. The kit will bring the track width out 1-5/8" I believe. So you will already need a 1.5" spacer to bring the rears to match the front. I plan to possibly run a 1/4" or maybe a 1/2" (if it leave enough threads) to bring the front out a full 2" from stock. And then run a 2" spacer in the back. But that's after I see how much they stick out with the 1-5/8" widened track width.

 

If you do a RCX kit of any height then your track wish won't widen at all so you can run 2" spacers front and rear and still be even all around.

I wouldn't bet on 35s fitting cleanly with that kit. That pic of the 3.5" with 33s looks stuffed. As far as the offset on the factory 22s. You may get away with it without spacers. You'll note that the bs allowance is greater with increased wheel diameter just due to spindle clearance. If not just roll with half inch spacers up front and 2" out back

I didn't think about the track width increasing. I guess if I do it I'll just have to see how it all fits before adding spacers to the mix.

 

The more I look at it I think it would be better to just run 33"s with the 4" lift. If I ever need to flex I think the 35"s would make contact. It would look bad ass on the street but suck when it came time to actually use the suspension.

 

RCX is the lift that the dealer is installing but they list it as a 6" lift whereas RC lists their lifts at 5" and 7", so I need to go by the dealer and ask which lift is on the trucks they have in stock. I could go that route since that is what they use and the price is nice.

Here's a truck with the 7 inch RCX on 20"s and 35"s. I'm really liking the look and I'm kinda torn on the 5 inch and 33"s or 7 inch and 35"s.

So in my opinion you need to start with selecting what tire size you're willing to go with and then start thinking height. See me I won't go to 35s due to mpg and weight/wear, specially with these $hitty gears GM puts in these trucks

If you are already considering going higher then that's the route you should go, because if you don't, every time you pull up next to a bigger truck at a stop light, etc. you'll sigh....lol. Then you'll spend more money to go higher. So just do it now and avoid the pitfalls that I, and so many others, have fallen into.

I guess I need to drive one of the trucks on 35"s to compare it to a stock truck. They are all 5.3s and I'm guessing they've got 3.42 gears in them. I'd be looking at a 6.2/8-speed with 3.23 gears for myself.

 

At 10MPH in 1st gear a stock truck will pull ~1572RPM and the same truck on 35"s will pull ~1415RPM. With 35"s and 3.42 gears, ~1498RPM. 3.73, ~1633RPM.

 

At 40MPH in 6th gear a stock truck will pull ~1379RPM and the same truck on 35"s will pull ~1241RPM. With 35"s and 3.42 gears, ~1314RPM. 3.73, ~1433RPM.

 

At 70MPH in 8th gear a stock truck will pull ~1617RPM and the same truck on 35"s will pull ~1411RPM. With 35"s and 3.42 gears, ~1494RPM. 3.73, ~1630RPM.

 

I'd probably do a 3.73 swap at some point.

    • You can install tailpipes that direct the exhaust sideways vs the OEM one that goes straight back. There are several on the market, do you own research. HOWEVER, you need to make sure the Venturi vents are still intact, otherwise it will throw a engine code. There is a sensor somewhere that detects back pressure on the exhaust. And if it doesn't collect the correct metrics, it will throw the truck into limp mode. 
    • "Teardown" is complete. Head surfaces are clean and ready, new intake is prepped and ready. Coolant drained and water pump is removed, radiator is removed, new hoses and pump are ready.   The replacement intake is also from a '95 (with I think 260k, the odometer said). Noticeably less pitting where it covers the rear coolant passages. I'm not sure if that's a tribute to more frequent use, more frequent coolant changes/upkeep, or if the intake was machined at some point. But it appears I found a good one.   My coolant hoses were original, and the lower hose still retained the factory spring inside. It's not really rusty, but it's got deposits all over it. Unsure if I should re-install it (will thoroughly clean it first). Someone said hose technology has gotten better since 1995 (has it?) and I don't need the spring. I think modern EPDM is what made those hoses last from 1995-2026, so it's a question of how much suction can the water pump really pull, and will it collapse the hose without a spring?   I'm stopped and waiting for parts, however.   When I first brought the truck home, the fan was intermittently hitting the radiator shroud. I could see someone had monkeyed with the shroud (put a bunch of cardboard as a spacer between the upper/lower shroud halves. Someone said the motor mounts have likely failed and the engine has sagged. I wasn't sure I believed that. The engine is really solid in its mounts: To remove the old intake I *just* nearly permanently welded to the heads with freshly cured RTV and gasket snot two weeks ago, I literally had to use the arms on my lift and a chain with a bolt attached to the intake to pull it loose. It almost picked the front of the truck off the ground before ....scuuuuuuuuuuup.... I could actually hear the gaskets tearing and it broke loose and the whole truck settled back down. Motor barely moved.   SO, those parts I'm waiting on... The lower radiator mounts/bushings had completely failed. The radiator needs to be insulated from the rad support, and the bushings help the rad stand at the correct height. The plastic "baffle" was also destroyed at some point. Someone had attached the shroud to it incorrectly, overlapping a joint that should have been underlapped, creating another suspect issue potentially causing things to hit the fan. Broken tabs, side is busted off, and it's perma-formed/bent where it was jimmied incorrectly.   The baffle? Unobtainum. Long since discontinued from GM, of course. Aftermarket/capa/chinese? Also unobtanium. In GM's infinite wisdom, it appears there are at least two different variations whether the Blazer is 2 or 4 door, and I can't yet tell if they shared the same part with the S-pickups. Plan B, if I can't find a viable used one, will be to create a bracket to re-assemble the critical joint I need to seal a gap with the shroud. But that will bug me, it won't be...perfect.   The water pump bolts appear to have been installed with...plumber's putty. I guess, sure, if it works...? I've found a few "backyard fixes" like that. Someone's been here before....   If I can't find someone to jam bamboo under my fingernails to fill my free time this week I think I'll install the driver's power window motor and replace the rear door speaker that's inop. I've got a genuine GM "9.5" ohm working replacement. Why GM used a non-standard resistance....nevermind. Of course they did, you can get more sound from a cheap factory amp that way.   And the saga goes on...

    • I started my install this weekend. Everything was pretty straight forward but I ran into one issue with running power through the firewall. The nipple grommet on my High Country already has a small harness running through it - has anyone else ran into this issue? And on the engine bay side, does the wire basically just penetrate the factory wiring boot? I did this on my '22 Trail Boss and it seems much easier but thats been a few years. My other thought would be possibly drilling a new hole adding a rubber grommet just to the lower left of the factory hole. Thoughts?   Has anyone used a T-harness off the Bose amp and obtained power from there? It seems a little odd that such a small amp needs 3 power leads
    • ///// Ok--Thanks for that info--I could not find yesterday when I looked for the specs on that NAPA filter what I wanted. Their website is not very user friendly. I buy all teh filters for  our three vehicles once or twice a year. Have always run NAPA Gold on everything I own....I buy it thru my Son's account for his business-which he has a Heavy Equipment repair shop-one reason he uses NAPA so much-they have such a full line of coverage for just about anything/anywhere- He gets s  good discount because of volume bought.
