Wanting to upgrade from 2014 SLE 5.3 CCSB to 2014 6.2 CCSB. Advice

So I picked up my 5.3 a few months ago and I love the truck. Quality is great, and I think its one of the better looking pickups around. But I want more power, I came in from a 3.5 Ecoboost and while at first the power delivery was ok I really want more.

Anyways long story short before I step my foot in the dealer I want to test the waters and see what I can expect to pay for a 2014 SLT CCSB with a 6.2. My current truck is as follows;

2014 Sierra Crew Cab Short Bed

2wd 5.3L w/3.43 Gears and LSD

Cocoa Dune Cloth Interior/Silver Ext

"Texas Edition" so it has the 20" 6 spoke wheels

I paid around $32k for the truck after incentives, during that time they had around $7k in incentives but now I think they have around $9.5k in incentives. After my trade it I ended up financing roughly $26k over 60months which is now down to $23k owed.

That being said what can I expect? I want a 2014 6.2, I don't need leather, or the Bose system. 4x4 would be nice but would add another 3-4K.

6.2's come with leather because they are only available on the SLT/LTZ and up interiors. Around here it's very hard to find them without all the options added. The few I found were MSRP above $50k and best offers I got were high $40k.

Have you tried E85 and or a tune? E85 gets you within 40 HP of the 6.2. If your worried about warranty, by the time you lose money on the trade and pay for the upgrade to a hard to find 6.2 you could cover any warranty issues if you every had one out of pocket. Then there is supercharging.

A bolt on complete supercharger is $6k(plus a weekends worth of work) and will leave a stock 6.2 in the dust. That would be my vote if the 5.3 isn't enough. I bet it might even be cheaper than the cost to upgrade to a 6.2 between the hit on the trade and the extra cost of a 6.2 truck.

I purchased my first 6.2L a week ago . I traded in my 2014 5.3 and I love the power difference. The quick accelerations are the best. I wouldn't go back.

They would give about 2K more his truck than he owes, add about 40K to find a 6.2 if he is really lucky, so yea S/charging is way cheaper.

I actually hadn't thought about supercharging. I need to do more research on it. If the install and tune is pretty simple I would just have someone do it.

Yeah thats kind of what I figured. I was hoping I could find a 2014 6.2 for around 34-36k with similar options as mine, but $40k is steep and I do agree about what they would give me for my trade it. Financing $38k to by current $23k is a big chunk of change.

I've researched the heck out of ones for the K2xx trucks as I plan to do the same for my new one. From the install instructions I've read it doesn't look like much has changed. My brother and I did my 03 in a weekend so I'm not sure what install costs would be. If you do it yourself you will need two torque wrenches, in-lbs and ft-lbs, a bunch of metric sockets/wrenches, a collection of extensions/universals, and other basic shop tools.

If they offered the 6.2 in the SLE Texas package it would come in about there, but they don't so to get the 6.2 you hit about 50K before any deals. I would suggest E85, it takes a couple tanks, it does wake the 5.3 up. The 5.3 doesn't like 87 gas too much, to make it perform use 93 gas if you cant get E85. You can use 87 but you get KR so it pulls timing and performance.

I really never understood that. Ford offers the 3.5 Ecoboost throughout their truck trims (with a few exeptions) which really helped out with the high adaption rates and allows the customer to purchase a stripped down truck with the towing and hauling capabilities of a much more expensive trim. GM went the other route and only offers the 6.2 in the SLT/LTZ trims which start at $40k. There is no reason to segment your customers like that, and its just asinine they would relegate the 6.2, which is an amazing motor, for only the highest of trims. In other words the 3.5 Ecoboost is set out to compete with the 6.2L, however I can go out and get a Ford with an 3.5eb and tow 10k lbs for around $30k, with GM I would have to go up to $40k to do so.... Anyways that was my rant....

As far as E85 goes I tried it when I first got the truck and really liked the extra horsepower the truck put down. I did not keep doing it because here in Dallas there are not many gas stations that offer E85, most are in the DFW outskirts such as North Plano, and North Garland near Wylie. However I just moved to the Lakewood area and realized there is a Racetrac within a 3 minute detour of my normal drive to work. So I'm going to stop by later this week and do a few tanks and see what happens.

I think most direct injection engines do not like the lower octane gas, that and the carbon build-up sucks as well. :(

Did you get a 14 or 15?

You are going to have a hard time finding a 2014 6.2, most of them are gone and the 15's are here. You damn sure aren't going to find one for under $40k.

Thanks, thats kinda what I wanted to know. I figured they would be hard to get under $40k. I'm guessing most dealer incentives do not qualify the SLT for discounts.
