Question about cold start High Idle

I think maybe there are two different issues being addressed in this thread??

Seems like the "Fast Idle System" was intended for the HD trucks as a option or we, the (1500 series), have another thing to program?

This is what is copied from the manual.

 

 

Fast Idle System
If equipped, this feature is available
only with cruise control. The manual
fast idle switch is operated using the
cruise control buttons on the left
side of the steering wheel.
This system can be used to
increase engine idle speed
whenever the following conditions
are met:
. The parking brake is set.
. The brake pedal is not pressed.
. The vehicle must not be moving
and the accelerator must not be
pressed.
To control the fast idle:
. To enable the Fast Idle System,
press and release the cruise
control on/off button and ensure
that the switch indicator light
is lit.
. Press and release the cruise
control SET- button. Engine
speed will be held at
approximately 1200 rpm.
One of the following actions will turn
off the fast idle:
. Pressing the brake.
. Selecting the cruise control
cancel button.
. Releasing the parking brake.
. Moving the transmission shift
lever out of P (Park) or
N (Neutral).
. Selecting the cruise control on/
off button when it was
previously on.
. Pressing the cruise control SET button
a second time.
. Pressing the accelerator more
than one-quarter of the
way down.
. Turning the ignition switch to the
LOCK/OFF position.

 

So, if equipped, and I'm in the vehicle, I could set it to run at 1200 rpm's. If I'm in the house and remote start it to warm it up, it will idle at the decreased rpm's as mentioned and shown in the video. I probably wouldn't go thru the task of walking out to start it, manually increase the rpms, and sit there and wait. If I'm going out to start it, I'm leaving after about 30 seconds anyway.

I guess we don't have this option, wonder if it is for 2500's as mentioned earlier.

I called the dealer, sent him a link to the video for the shop foreman, and he was not concerned about it. He said it would there was some sort of TSB a while back due to something fire related with the update and he thinks since mine was a later build, it would just be that way. No update to speed it up.

It runs excellent and no codes, I'm happy.

mine does it also for a while. does yalls have white smoke a good bit? even if its not cold out it will smoke on warm up

I can verify it's an available add-on for on 2500 Duramax, not sure about 6.0L. It's intended for operating accessories (alternators/AC/ add-ons) at higher speed when the truck is stationary.

I've never heard of it being available on a 1500.

I assumed for hydraulics, welders,or something high amp draw, but I was not sure why it would be available for a 1500,

On cold outside temperature-cold starts, mine idles high, slightly above 1000rpm for about 30 seconds or so. Then around 750 for a while. Then once its warmed up back down to normal.

Mine does this when outside. On cold starts in the garage, it starts at around 750 for a while, then down to normal.

Correct HD trucks only, available for both gas and diesel.

Jus visiting the thread and notice there was no outcome. 

 

My 2015 used to have a cold start of about 1500rpm and then drop down after a min or so. My cold start also disappeared. It just start running higher on first start up. There's is something definitely going on that's different.
