Is there any hope in fixing this?

There is no need to remove anything, most dent guys will either drill a hole in the door jam or use a glue pulling method.

Would you have to drill a hole to do a quarter size on the quarter of a suburban? I've seen PDR done many times always impresses me they charge 100 per quarter size at my work!

My last work truck was a 04 suburban and the quarter panels are thought to access, that being said it just depends on the location of the dent. Like I mentioned earlier a good dent guy can glue pull it, it's a process of gluing a tab to the panel and using a slide hammer to pull the dent out, then removing the tab/glue and tap it down even. Took my truck in this morning to the local PDR guy in town. He's been doing it for a couple years and I had heard some good things about him.

 

He had a look at my truck and said the dent is in the absolute worst possible place. He mentioned the same thing I did that the molding should be higher and said the Fords have the same problem. He's going to see what he can do with it but did tell me it's going to be hard to make it completely disappear. I'll post pics when I pick my truck up and see how he did.

 

Just thinking here, I have 3M/Xpel coating on the front of my truck to protect from rock chips, would having a strip of clear vinyl run along the door help at all with door dents? If anything it might just help so the paint doesnt get all scratched up.

Nope. had a dent in the same exact spot. problem with the dent doctor guys said I tried two of them, was theres metal supports right there, and the new steel over the last few years is a lot stiffer. I tried two guys with no luck. had to get painted and fixed cost 480 bucks. If you go that route take it in and dont mention insurance tell them you want to pay cash.

Some dents are not fixable 100% , however a good dent guy can do wonders. Like I said earlier you NEED a guy with years under his belt, Not to say anything bad about another dent guy and his skills but I fix thing now I would have never been able to fix with just a few years experiance. Also the bracing in the door can work for you or against you when doing dents , most of the time they give you something to pry against. Any new dent guy can fix standard door dings even with a few weeks experience , complexed dents on bodylines take a while to learn to do them right .Good Luck.

 

And your right about the molding being in the wrong spot, the day I picked up my new LTZ I said to myself thats where the ding will be , just above the molding.

Your right. The guys I went both had over 10 years of experience and are highly reputable in the area. THey did buff out the scratching and move it out a little bit, but I would say it made it 25% all in all, and my dent is the same as the OPs. Unless some guy can do wonders and after watching two guys work at mine I doubt he'll get them to fix it.

Well here's the final result. The guy worked on it for 2 hours. He had to glue a tab on it, work it from the top from the window and also had to drill a hole to work it from the side. If you really look from some angles you can see a tiny flat spot where the dent was. It is 98% fixed and I am very happy!

 

Cost me $80, money well spent to me.

Very nice, I tell my customers when I can't fix them 100% that most people wouldn't be able to see the repair except me ,for looking at it for a hour and them for knowing exactly where it was. Most of the time only I see the imperfection but still tell the customer that one day in a certain light or angle they might see it.

Park farther away. I don't park anything around other cars. I am fine walking across the lot.

I feel ya 250 miles nad i got something kicked up at me also, nice part about parking across the parking lot is the carts have more room to gather speed!!

Funny how us truck guys are, I'm the same way with my old 03. My wife just hates going anywhere involving shopping with me when I'm driving my truck because I too still park waaaay away from anyone else while she on the other hand has to try get the spot right in front of the store. Other than one idiot driving a Volkswagon that let his door go in the wind one day years ago, I've yet to pick up a single door ding, the wife's 09 G6 is another story, door ding central. Parking at the end of the lot away from all the citdiots helps!

I usually do park way out but the parking lots were packed this day and I pretty much had to take whatever spot was available.
