I have a 2016 Silverado LT Z71 reg cab and the rake is pretty big. Is the Bilstein 5100 ride adjustable the BEST option?

Price aside, what's the best shocks/struts/coil combo for having a level, comfy ride with good performance?

Straight up

Just ordered the full set of 5100's. Looking forward to getting these on the truck, this is the one thing that everyone seems to agree is a great upgrade.

Don't see it as an issue.

Swapped every POS rancho shock on my truck with Kings all the way around. While the price was a lot higher than everything else out there, I am 150% satisfied and don't regret 1 dollar I spent on them. My biggest issue with this truck was the droop stop position and the horribly made control arms. Swapped the upper for a fabtech uniball upper arm, cut out the droop stop and I can hit any hole, dip, driveway etc at any speed with zero shock fade and no rebound issue. Compression, valving and psi of the shocks are all out of the box- no changes made. haven't hit dirt with them yet, but based on the progressive spring rate, I wont have any issues.

Save $$ and do it right. I've had bilsteins, fox's, ranchos, walker evans and nothing compares to KING...

Anyone know when the 5100s will be available for a 2017. I assumed they would be same as 16 but Essexdistributing told me they are not released yet.

Recently installed Bilsteins all around set at the top setting, netted ~2" in the front. Sitting near perfectly level but I may opt for the 1" lift in the rear for towing and hauling purposes.

Wheel/tire combo is 285/70/17 Cooper MTP's on 17x9+6 Pro-Comp 83 Series/Vapor

Very happy with the ride/stance/response and look. The truck feels very stable in all conditions but still a little bouncy in the front (attributed mostly to the tires and PSI)

Installed the 5100 shocks with the boot down it felt wrong but labels up so I went with it. My question is, the bottom of the boot is resting on the bracket that the bottom of the shock is connected too, will the vibration of the truck cause this to wear if it's rubbing against that?

my brother in law had the kings and they were too stiff and one blew out so he went with the Rancho 9000 xl shocks and that's what sold me on Rancho and I do love them.We will see how they hold up

I have the softer plastic mudflaps that sit closer to the wheel, so initially they did. I have them pinned to the wheel well carpet and no rubbing, even @ full lock in reverse now. No where close to touching anything else

    • Yep! This should be a pin somewhere as @pgamboa really dives into all of this. Thanks for reposting the link!
    • I did the new thermostat after doing a 'flip' for a year. Runs as cool one way as the other in the summer but in the winter there is a bit of a floor. Yellow with the new 70 C thermostat. My data over the life of the unit to date. Still need more cooler. Anyway that floor helped both winter fuel economy and shift quality in the winter. I found it a good balance.
    • Evan Williams Bottled in Bond   So pouring the last of a bottle of Evan Williams Black label last night I set off the the state store for a refill only to be denied the by an empty shelf. Rats.    What the did have was a bottle of Evan Williams Bottled in Bond. 100 proof. Hum, a few bucks more but a known distiller. Lets have a swing at it. ( I have before )    Cracked it open and pour a serving over ice. Hum.... more heat, yes. More alcohol naturally. But the barreling not the proof brings the taste and this one came up short.    Oh is was familiar but the heat ran the barrel over like a Peterbilt runs over a squirrel. Could use a heavier toasting of the oak me thinks or perhaps a longer barreling. Who knows. But what I can say is ice or a water back isn't the answer. What kills one kills them both. Sad. It is a pleasant drink....if you have little to compare it to.
    • I've had exactly one set of Bridgestone. Lasted five year and 125,000 miles and had I known better 15oK would have been a cake walk. I would have bought a like set had they not tripled in price since the first set. I removed them at said mileage with 5/32" remaining in dead even wear all four. They were fuel efficient, quite, comfortable and predictable.    Early on I got a very good alignment checked at least once a year, sometimes twice; kept the tires properly inflated, balanced and rotated. And I've found that many a tire issue can be avoided with great maintenance practices. Lot's of tire dealers will do rotation and balance (simple) for free for as long as you own the tire they sold you so no excuse not to.    Bead prep, alloy integrity and stem health have a huge impact on inflation stability. There are more mountings done poorly that perfectly. Finding a good tire guy is gold and as important as finding a tire you like.    That 3X price increase now two sets of "other tires' later is starting look like a bargain.      Bad maintenance kills more tires than bad tires.
