Helpful info. After searching around about modifying the W1 can.... I think this is the best bet. A product actually for crank case breathers. Ford FA-1068, crossed to Napa:

Take the material out of this deal and put it into the W1 can's baffle area. I'm also debating running a 3/8" fuel filter on the can's outlet to the intake manifold. Technically it's dirty, UN-filtered air going into the intake manifold. Looking at Wix filter # 33003.

The above breather is a POS. Picked one up this morning from Napa. It's SST Steel wool. Little pieces were breaking off. I"m buying the 1" DIA 316 SST Discs from McMaster Carr. Pack them in there.

Drove 300 miles yesterday for work and about 37 today. Checked it at lunch time at work and was shocked how much oil it picked up. Mind you I'm running the can stock, no mesh or anything. Probably had 2oz in the can easily. I could not believe it.

does anyone know if the version 2 has the same baffle in it where you can add the mesh? i have a oppertunity to get the v2 cheap and it comes with a screw and o ring to block off the breather?

I have v2 and yes it does have the baffle that unscrews so you can add some mesh

Ok, Today I added some Scotch brite SST scouring pad material into the baffle box compartment of my ADD W1. I did not go nuts with the material. I made sure by blowing into it not to impede the air flow. There is quite a bit of material in the compartment though. Along with the screens from the Napa breather which are on top and bottom of the scouring material. I did empty the can into my garage measuring cup. Had exactly 1oz of oil in the can after driving 635 miles. Oil looked clean and had no "water" in it. Looked clean enough to put back into the engine, but I didn't. Dumped into my recycle oil container. So for a 6k OCI, I should expect to see 9oz of oil in the can; 1/4 of a quart. Enough for me to keep my catch can hooked up. I'm curious to see how much I get now with the SST scouring mesh material in the baffle box of the W1.

It appears that most of you have installed these on the 5.3 engine, has anyone done this to the 6.0?

Bah! I can only find version 2. It is definitely cheaper but man I don't know if that sight glass will hold up.

EDIT: Never mind. I was looking at one from http://gogoautoshop.comthat did not look at all like the ADD W1 but was listed as such.

^ I have about 1k + on my can. Loving it. Wish I did this mod the day I bought the truck. Took a few tanks of fuel, but my overall MPG has jumped quite a bit. I'd say 1mpg gain. Normally I average 18.5 the tank for my weekly routine. Past few weeks it's been 19.2 - 19.8. Hwy mileage is better too. I drove this afternoon on the hwy for about 45 minutes. Cruise on 77-79. Mileage was 21.6 for that stretch. That's good considering I don't even have a chin spoiler and the speed I was running, with the AC on in the heat.

I'll take my chances. That Camaro had 11k. That's proof that a lot of catastrophic issues happen early in a vehicles life. I'm very cautious about modifying a new vehicle at first. I like to see it put through the paces, rack up some miles and let me know I didn't get a lemon before I mod anything other than window tint and a bed cover. My CC went on at like 42-43k. For me, 36k is when I start to feel more comfortable. The old bumper to bumper 3yr or 36k warranty. Let's face it. They have this stuff engineered around that. That is the bench milestone in the vehicles life if it's a crap or not. I

16k - RR axle seal was puking gear oil all over the wheel.

35k - Flywheel bolts were leaking and the cylinder deactivation cover on the front of the motor was leaking. This was the big repair. They pulled the trans to put sealant on the flywheel bolts.

^Only issues I've had with my truck in 45k/19mo on-top of the normal recalls. Proof that 11k is too soon to start mods. my 5.3 didn't feel broken in until 30k. 36k man.... 36k.

I am just waiting for my spare foul air hose to arrive from the USA so I can get the quick connect fittings to do the install.

How did it turn out with the quick connects? I was thinking I'd do an Elite E2 with AN fittings at the can and quick-connects at the opposite ends. If I add a clean-side separator, the vent bridge would use quick connects as well.

FYI, GM is voiding engine failure warranties due to catch cans.

Damn that guy is getting screwed royally. There's no way the catch can caused any of that to happen. Good thing I saved the stock parts though. If I ever have any trouble, I'm returning it to stock before I even take it in for service in the first place.

    • Yes, and also pulling heavy trailers or a large camper up steep grades as well as descending grades such as the more rustic off road camping locations and using engine braking with that low gearing as well as soft ground can just suck the power . I realize pickups these days tend to have an over all lower first gear ratio compared to automatic transmission pickups from years back so that has helped a lot in its ability in high range but there comes a point if in four wheel drive the torque runs out at the wheels, certainly with a gas engine. They don't put two speed transfer cases on pickups for a cool factor, they have a function if one needs that massive torque to the wheels that high range can't deliver.
    • Notes 7/18/2026   3,400 miles on this batch of Mobil 1 Euro 5W40 since the GDI pump replacement. Alcohol runs very clean when ring seal is tight and the sump isn't getting hosed with fuel. Checked oil level at fill up today as is my practice and grabbed a white Kleenex to look at the color. What color?  I was going to change it but.....
    • 4 low is really nice on steep boat ramps.
    • Interesting, I suspect I would have fueled up in Lee Vining as the day prior I would have filled up either in Laughlin or near there and maybe again before I entered Death Valley and once out the other side late that evening as I kept on driving into the night up near Lee Vining. Next morning I most likely fueled up in LV before heading over Tioga Pass into ( as I refer to it as "Yose .... Mite" 😁 ). And again that was 19 years ago but the price then must not have jumped out at me like the 5 bill a gallon theme of nutty cult hippy country Big Sir or head so far up their rear Aspen. I'd be curious to know where the highest prices are in the lower 48, I probably would not be far off to guess somewhere in Cali forn ie. Coldfoot and Prudhoe bay may have those prices beat but that is a whole other world up there and when prices are more normal elsewhere that is about what they can be up there I believe in no mans land. Anyway interesting that the 395 corridor is hosing people and the thing is, its tourist season and its not like there are a lot of competition options when driving up that highway from what I could see. Yup, big ole Boaterhomes and various other RV's ahead and behind me at the Yosemite entrance gate and they have to get their fuel somewhere.
    • Those can be high, as well as the big California cities. The ones that will pop your eyes out are the 395 corridor on the Eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas. Lee Vining, $7.19 for regular and $8.89 for diesel is what the Google said right now.
