Diablo intune questions on setup

I posted this in another thread but I am trying to get all of the info possible on this issue so I figured I would as here too.

When I first installed my Diablo, I didnt install a tune, but just turned off torque management and afm. Quite pleased with the way it was performing. So I decided to install the 87 flex tune with afm and tm turned off. The truck seems to be shifting from 2nd-3rd at only about 1800-1900 rpms and bogging the truck down. I know I can up the shift point rpms but I don't really want to mess with the canned tune parameters. The truck with the 87 tune seems like it can't figure out which gear to be in.

It seems as though some people have great luck with the 87 tune and others are having the same issue as me. (I also have the newest version of the diablo software updated last night) Anybody else have this happen or experience this and what did you do to fix it? Seems to be a relatively widespread issue on the Diablo Forum. Thanks in advance!

I so want a Diablo, but I'm still nervous about voiding 100k miles worth of warranty.

I'm right there with ya lol

I was in the same boat, but I couldn't take that slush box of a transmission any longer. I purchased an InTune a few days ago and so far I'm using the Diablo tune with a firm shift with a couple of tweaks, my truck will hit 7k miles today. I have NO regrets, it truly made the truck enjoyable to drive.

I have a question, does anybody know how I can get one of the Diablo intunes sent to California? Every website I have tried so far won't ship to my address because of stupid CA emissions...

I have experienced some of the same issues you're talking about with the 87 octane tune. I have a 2014 Silverado 5.3 liter. Some people say that if you turn off the throttle boost it helps that situation some because throttle boost is adding more signal but less pedal travel and therefore the truck is shifting sooner due to less pedal travel but at the same time you're supplying more fuel and therefore you get a bogging effect. I have just learned to live with it and press a little more on the pedal because I don't like running without throttle boost, I like the extra effect that it gives. It would be great if Diablo sport where to update the can tune to address this though.

Can't you just go to another state and buy one in a speed shop

Seems like you wouldn't have a problem on eBay.

I'm not driving to another state just for a tuner lol

Thats what I figured out. There are some used ones that I could get shipped to me.

I just performed the latest update with the DiabloSport tonight. I'm not sure if the update makes any difference but what I am sure about is, if you set throttle boost to 0% it gets rid of the short shift problem from 1 to 2. This is with 87 tune, afm off, speed limit off, tcm is firm shift and for the hell of it I turned torque management back off. I still don't feel any difference between on or off with torque management, just figure something has to be quicker/more power with it off. So to recap, turn trottle boost off. Turning throttle boost off doesn't make that much of a difference to pedal feel but it does allow the pedal to be depressed a little bit more and keep from bogging the truck due to too much fuel and also allows the truck to rev a bit more between first & second.

Thanks for the response - greatly appreciate it! With throttle boost at 0% I still had the issue. The problem is the 87 tune has 15% throttle boost in the canned tune - so even if you have it manually set at 0% its still 15% if the 87 tune is installed. I believe it to be my issue but not sure why some are having trouble and others are not. I returned back to stock with AFM off and Torque Management off and it is much better. I might try adding 5% throttle boost, but I don't think I will install the 87 tune until Diablo fixes it. Forgot to mention that with the 87 tune installed, and taking it easy, due to it bogging down my mpg dropped about 2.5 mpgs, and that was only over about 15 miles. So something tells me my tune was not acting as it should.

I believe you're right about the 87 octane tune and losing miles per gallon. I'm not sure if it's only the 87 octane tune or the fact that throttle boost was enabled but I did notice upon accelerating, it uses more gas that it used to. I think that's because part of the 87 tune may be running the engine a little bit more rich to develop more horsepower. That's just my guess. I do notice still there is a slight bog down from first to second even without the throttle boost but it's less noticeable. I posted some tuned files to Diablo sports website forum so we'll see what happens. As far as my miles per gallon on the highway though, it's been as good or better that was stock.

I just got my InTune and installed the 87 octane tune, left afm on, and installed the firm shift. Initial thoughts were it drove a bit better, still hesitated a bit sometimes in the lower gears. My mileage was greatly improved right away, went from around 14L/100km to 10.5L/100km, quite impressed with that. I will play with the options more later and try and get those shifts better and I'm happy.

Does anyone know how to install another tune? Do I plug in the device and take it back to stock before installing another tune? Or just plug it in and tune away again right away? I don't want to accidentally lose the stock original copy on the device.

You can just plug it in and choose to tune it again. No need to go back to stock first. It'll ask you if you want to keep or clear your custom settings from the last tune also. So if you choose to keep it'll remember your custom settings like AFM on/off, TM on/off, tire size changes, etc. which is a pretty nice little feature.

I finally got around to changing my tune from the 87/flex with AFM off, TM off, firm shift, throttle at +12. I put on the 91/flex with AFM off, TM on, firm shift, throttle at +2. After a full tank on the new tune my mpg is the same as my last tank on the other tune at 15.8 mpg. So if does not seem like the throttle boost made any difference. And back in May I was not tuned for a few weeks and I was avg 13 mpg so it seems the diablosport really helps my mpg out (I always use E85). Makes me wonder if it isn't the AFM off making the difference since I've never had it off prior to putting the tune back on in early June.

Anyway that 1-2 shift hesitation that you noticed while tuned was that under medium acceleration? I had just a very short pause today on a 1-2 shift under medium acceleration that I had never noticed before. They are always very quick with the firm tune. Wondering if this is what you were noticing?
