Annoying center console Squeak.

Recommended Posts

Seems to happen when its cold. Where the center console meets the center stack on the dash. I get a very annoying squeak where the plastic is rubbing, if i wedge my finger in it..it stops.just wondering. If anyone else has this issue. I'll bring it up to the dealer but I'm sure it won't happen when I'm there lol. Anyone know of a diy fix? I'm thinking of wedging something in it. Or is this happening cause its cold and the plastic shrinks?

I don't think it is the plastic that shrinks. GM quality has shrunk. Anyway, i would try to wedge a thin piece of felt in there.

I thought my console side trim pieces were making noises too, but it turned out to be the console lid. I put some black weatherstripping on the underside of the console lid, so now the weatherstripping touches the console body when the lid is closed. Don't hear any squeaks and rattles now.

I can press the trim pieces with my finger and make the squeak happen as fast as I pres with my finger. When it warms up. Will be taking it apart to stop it.

Condition/Concern

Some customers may comment on hearing a rattle noise coming from the front floor center console/cup holder area.

The cause of this condition may be build variation of the console components, which creates a loose interface between the console trim plate and the floor console assembly.

Recommendation/Instructions

Add felt flocking tape to the front floor console trim plate following the steps and information below:

Note: The tape should line up to the bottom edge of the standings ribs, and should cover all four ribs.

  1. Remove the floor console cup holder and trim plate. Refer to Front Floor Console Trim Plate Replacement in SI.
  2. At the location shown in the illustration above, add an approximate 40 mm x 210 mm (1.58 in x 8.3 in) piece of Kent Automotive BRS flocking tape P/N KT13487, or equivalent, to both sides of the trim plate.
  3. Reinstall the floor console trim plate and cup holder. Refer to Front Floor Console Trim Plate Replacement in SI.
  4. Verify the rattle condition has been repaired.

I assume that not every truck has this problem.

Where can I buy felt tape?

You can buy a thin self adhesive felt pad (about 4"x6") and cut a small piece you need from it. Any hardware store or Walmart carries it.

Lowes sells this:
