Couple thoughts here, #1 I don't think you're supposed to run full synthetic until break in.

#2 I think some places are shorting people, and only putting in 6qts.

One of the prime benefits of synthetics is their thin viscosity and ability to lubricate cold upon start-up, when most of the wear occurs. Your 3000 mile oil change interval sure doesn't hurt anything, but it really won't make your engine last any longer than you would expect using the OLM interval. Synthetic oil use has been tested and shown to reduce wear vs. mineral oils. I took the route of paying more for full synthetic (Mobil 1) and changing oil at the OLM indication, which is still a shorter interval than synthetic oil manufacturers recommend. I'm on my third truck with that method and all of them are still running great, with no measureable oil burning. One is approaching 300,000 miles and the other is at 150,000 miles. A friend owns the older one, and my brother has the other.

 

 

I've heard a few people with this issue, my 09 would blow smoke on start up from time to time. I've seen my new one do it twice. Had 80,000 on the 09 when I traders it. Have almost 30,000 on my 14 now. No issues other than the occasional smoke signal it sends. Normal, NO. Detrimental, not yet

 

I'm wondering if a catch can might help?

my 2014 Silverado has not used any as of 16,000 miles been changed twice . my 2000 Silverado used 1 quart of oil between changes

changed every 5000. miles it has 340,000 on it

Anybody using the new Pf63E oil filter. Was at the dealer getting the headlight update and pick up a cab air filter and an extra oil filter didnt notice till I got home that it was a PF63E.

My truck does use a very small amount of oil. I consider it normal.

I have 3,500 miles on my truck. I checked the oil while I got gas yesterday. It's right on the full mark.
