I run a GM dealership... lots of the problems on here have never been mentioned in my shop or my showroom, many were news to me when I read them... mind you, I don't watch TAC talk every week, my service manager does that... but still... it's one of the biggest reasons I changed my username to what it is today. When someone gets pissy, they'll tell as many people as they can reach... it's too bad the happy folks don't go out of their way to do the same thing and tell everyone how happy they are. All you can do is take it with a grain of salt.

Idk I still think everyone who likes there 2014 or newer GM pick up is an idiot. I'm still going to sell mine, by a dodge and go pick up my Taiwanese lady boy to remind me how much in common it has with my old 2014 suck-erado! ......

In all honesty you have to take forums with a grain of salt. Case and point the undercoat peeling "problem". Hell mines fantastic, it literally looks brand new after 5,000 miles. Now according to the forums if I'm a true believe my 2014 should have a completely rusted frame and GM should be buying it back. At the end of the day people need to remove their heads from their anus and think for themselves.

I am curious as to if you live in an area where they use salt on the roads ,where I live they use plenty and my frame is starting to show a bit of rust and I have about the same mileage as you,but this so called rust problem for me is a non issue living where I do all the vehicles I have ever owned have had rusty frames and I never really cared it just comes with the territory,I guess if a person lives where there is no salt on the roads the rust would be an issue because the person would not be used to seeing it and it could be a bit of a p!ss off,this little bit of rust on my frame doesn't take anything away from what an excellent truck this is.

I live in Alabama so we are salt free. But I grew up in Illinois so I am very familiar with rusty frames. My family always washed our cars at least once a week during especially during the winter to keep the salt off. It helped a surprisingly well.

The OP is right the '00-13 were great trucks! It is safe to say overall that these news ones simply are not there yet.

Old ones you could figure a fuel pump every 100,000 and maybe a front end rebuild around 200,000.

New ones right out of the gate are needing a lot to get going.

OP have you thought about grabbing a clean low mileage '12-'13? You would love the 6-speed.

AGAIN you have a 15 or 14?

I had a 14 now a 15 crew cab silverado..Ive had GM trucks way back to 71 blazer... all blazers & pickups...

this is a awesome truck in & out.

Father in law has a 6.2/8spd,and has had all the trans issues, still unresolved. 4 guys at work have them,and NONE havent made at least 2 trips back for issues. One of them has had 2 transmissions, an injector harness, and a power seat motor fail.

Couple that with the issues I see online and yeah, call me skeptical.

I was SUPER stoked when I heard about the 6.2 for this gen, and was dead set on one.

Now, no way in hell.

Currently rolling a 2006,5.3 ecsb. Bought it new, currently have 123k on it with virtually zero issues.

Was planning on trading/selling it at the 10yr mark, for a '14+ model, but I dont see that happening at all. Im hearing nothing good from the new gen trucks. Issues abound, and it scares me to imagine what they will be at, say, 70k miles.

Its not a $ thing. Im not rich, but I can swing a new truck with no issues, but I jist cant bring myself to unloading a perfectly good truck, in favor of a $700mo crap shoot.

The pre 2006 trucks are cheap to keep up, even if the trans, fuel pump, or waterpump should take a dive on me.

If I do get rid of this truck, ill search for a super low mi unit of the same generation.

That, or buy a Ram.

Had mine almost a year. 14 double cab 5.3 lt z71. Only issue I have is the small back seat and doors. That is my fault. Tried to save a buck and, well that's not gms fault. Not 1 issue. Almost 34,000 miles. Truck does clunk from time to time when searching for gears, but my old ford did too. Good truck.

I wished I could have gotten a Crew Cab, but all I need is a Double Cam and I didn't want to spend anymore than I did. It was 5K more just for a Crew with the short bed and I gotta have the 6.6' bed. At that time I didn't seem to find any rews with the standard bed, just short beds.

To be a glass half full POV, the Double is still a lot more room than my 98 Z71 Ext cab.

there have been a few issues that the dealerships have been more than happy to work with customers on, this should be expected with a completely new model though, personally i am extremely happy with my truck, my dad bought a ram in 2011 and has had noting but problems with it. at 80k the motor blew, the transmission fell out of the loaner they gave him and if you get too close and fart on it, it dents. The new chevys are much more sturdy and a better truck all together. If it werent for the dealership offered lifetime warranty on his truck he would have already traded it.... but they fix everything for free for the life of the truck or 99 years whichever comes first.
