So, the new ('14+) trucks just arent....... good.

Currently rolling a 2006,5.3 ecsb. Bought it new, currently have 123k on it with virtually zero issues.

Was planning on trading/selling it at the 10yr mark, for a '14+ model, but I dont see that happening at all. Im hearing nothing good from the new gen trucks. Issues abound, and it scares me to imagine what they will be at, say, 70k miles.

Its not a $ thing. Im not rich, but I can swing a new truck with no issues, but I jist cant bring myself to unloading a perfectly good truck, in favor of a $700mo crap shoot.

The pre 2006 trucks are cheap to keep up, even if the trans, fuel pump, or waterpump should take a dive on me.

If I do get rid of this truck, ill search for a super low mi unit of the same generation.

That, or buy a Ram.

Have you talked to anyone driving one, or are you only "hearing" the complaints from sites like this?

Love mine. It had some issues but it's all fixed now. Nbd.

Hope you enjoy that Ram.

If you're happy with the 06, keep it. When you get to 10 yrs with it, the 2014 will be a used 2 year old, by my math. A new one would be a 2016 and should have more bugs worked out.

Father in law has a 6.2/8spd,and has had all the trans issues, still unresolved. 4 guys at work have them, and NONE havent made at least 2 trips back for issues. One of them has had 2 transmissions, an injector harness, and a power seat motor fail.

Couple that with the issues I see online and yeah, call me skeptical.

I was SUPER stoked when I heard about the 6.2 for this gen, and was dead set on one.

Now, no way in hell.

You can't go by a forum because a lot sign up just to ask about a problem. I know more trucks are having issues than it should be, but that's still probably less than 1% of the trucks on the road. I've had my '14 since last April and has about 10,500 miles on it and have had no issues. The trans did shift hard at first but I believe it was from being in learn mode and it did stop after about 1-2,000 miles. Since then it shifts smooth everytime.

A lot of complaints on here are mainly personal preference type things, but that's understandable because no truck is 100% perfect for 1 person. But, also there's a lot of complaints of real issues.

If I had to buy this truck again I sure would with no hesitation.

It's kind of funny that you're talking about getting a Ram if you bought a new truck and they have the worst transmissions and aren't more reliable in general.

I've seen people on here complain that their bumper isn't exactly aligned. If you look hard enough, you're gonna find something wrong with any vehicle.

I think an 06 is a great truck.. remember though, a '14 is kind of like the old 99s where. The first year in a body style change. Yall remember all the electrical problems 99s had? The wires were too small and a lot of offroad driving/vibration would cause odd behavior.

By 06 that body style was darn near perfect, but I bet they still had glitches.

GM's model has always been a "make something, then revise it repeatedly until its near perfect, then throw it out and start all over again" kind of model. You see small tweaks here and there on each new model year of truck, even though the parts are interchangeable.

Case in point, compare a '67 chevy truck with a 72 chevy truck. Even on the frame level you'll see that many of the brackets and corssmembers on the 72 are thicker or shaped slightly differently.

I chock up all the problems people on here talk about to 2 things.

1. the fact that some forum goers are here mostly for troubleshooting/breakfix/outright complaints. and

2. This is the first gen of the k2xx body style... and only the first couple of releases of the new 8 speed transmission for the 6.2 trucks.

Give it time. Early adopters always have the risk of getting the brunt of design flaws.

I bought my truck used with 25k miles on it. By my logic, someone has already found and fixed most/any problems it may have had. Either that.. or I'll be finding them in a year or 2.

OK, so if "the new ('14+) trucks just arent....... good", why is it that three-quarters of a million people bought one in 2014??? Are they all wrong? (that doesn't include 2015 sales).

I've never talked to one person who didn't love his 14+ Silverado/Sierra!

Don't get sucked in by the negativity.

I love my '14 5.3. Great truck so far.

A HUGE step up from my '03 Explorer.

That's nothing, I came from a 98 Z71 lol. Before that I had an 86 C10 Custom Deluxe that didn't even have factory A/C (unless you count the vent windows lol) and also someone ripped out the radio and speakers. I seem to make huge step ups and I plan on keeping my '14 as long as I can, at least 10 years.

The new gen 2014-K2XX GM trucks are a great vehicles. Furthermore, the complaints voiced here are not truly representative of the wider audience of owners.

Don't get put off by reading complaints here in this forum. If you do, be prepared to visit Ford, Ram and Tundra forums also.

VERY well put. This is by FAR the BEST truck I've ever had. Mu last one, and '02 Silverado was a good truck, but this 2014 model is head and shoulder ABOVE it in every category.

Quietest truck made. PERIOD

LOTS of power

VERY nice interior

Comfortable

Head-turning great look.

Nope...NOT a "very good" truck, but an EXCELLENT truck.

Most awarded truck of 2014 AND...

I've had 2 in the past year and loved them both. 1 with a 6.2 and 1 with a 5.3, both problem free. Now i'm considering my 3rd but thinking of going with a 3/4 ton this time around.
