General Thoughts on 2014's vs. 2015's

2015 magnaride you can't level yet, based on some of the posts here. i'm not up to date but as of march you couldn't level them.

i would say your caddy rides better than any gmc/chevy so the best choice is to drive up to a dealer with a plan to hop into one quickly and compare. i bet the 2014's are quieter than your caddy though.

also, get a 6.2l its a small cost difference on a denali from a 5.3, and the resale value will help.

Have any of you guys with a 2014 drove a 2015 or vice versa? I suppose it would be more likely a 2015 owner test drove a 2014 prior to purchasing yours but kinda looking to see if anyone has driven both for a direct comparison.

I test drove a '14 5.3L Denali and ended up ordering my 6.2L '15 Denali. While the 5.3L wasn't bad, the 6.2 just has that extra to it that I like. Also, I like the '15 with Magnetic ride better than the '14 I drove.

So there was a noticeable difference between the two in terms of ride quality?

Btw nice rides! I miss my 04 CTS-V in the summer.

I don't know about the re-sale value with the 6.2. Gas here in Pittsburgh today is $3.05 a gallon. Might be hard to unload a 6.2 if gas prices stay or rise in the future.

It'll never be hard to unload the 6.2.

The 6.2L in my 14 crew cab with the 6 speed and 3.42s will blow the doors of the 6.2L in my wife's 2010 Yukon Denali. Not even close.

Get the 6.2L, you won't regret it.

It should be quicker. The Yukon is a little heavier than the pickup.

Your 2014 also has a newer, better, more powerful engine than that of the 2010. The new EcoTec3 engines are an improvement over current generations.

I'm very happy with my 14 lt 6.5 bed 5.3 with 3.43. But i would love the 6.2. But i average 30,000 miles a year... this truck is not even 13 months old and i already have 35,200 miles .... btw your truck is awesome. A 2007 with 100,000 miles sounds like a new truck to me.. put some cash into it different mods fix it up some snd drive it another 100,000 miles and save idk $40,000.

Get the 6.2, buddy and I bought trucks 14 months ago, me the 6.2, him, because he was worried about MPG, the 5.3, same rear gear, same options, comparing MPG almost daily. Real world maybe 1/2 MPG difference. Took him for a ride in mine, shut off traction control and nailed it. Instantly he knew the difference. We both bought new trucks again last week, this time they are both 6.2's.

Thanks man. I'm kinda like you with putting the miles on it. I drive at least 60 miles round trip to work per day currently and might be more in a few months. I bought my truck with 47,000 miles about 2 1/2 years ago. So I'm putting over 20,000 miles a year on it now. Like I said it's a great truck but with all the nice features, the dollars add up to replace them when they wear out. I just had to replace the front shocks and with magnetic ride control those were pricey and then little things here and there add up.

Btw guys didn't want to turn this into a 6.2 vs 5.3 debate, just am looking to see the differences between 2014 and 2015 for if I am to buy a slightly used one. If I decide to go 2014 I could maybe get one this fall where I might have to wait a year for the 2015 unless there are really good dealer incentives in the next 6 months.

No debate here, I've owned both and won't go back to a 5.3, I just posted a real life experience about 2 trucks and 2 truck owners. My buddy runs 87 in his, I don't. I'm one of those anal people about power, if I set the cruise I want to stay that speed regardless of the hill and when I pass I want to do it quickly. Honestly the MPG difference is not much. 1 MPG per tank amounts to using one extra gallon or so per tank with a 6.2 So the cost of going to 91 over 87 and that 1 MPG is less than $10 per tank. It's up to each individual if they are willing to pay it. You can run the 6.2 on 87 and that probably makes it closer to $5. The 15's 6.2 have the 8 speed, 14's have the 6 speed. I buy a new truck almost every year and it seems like they are putting more options that I think are more for increasing the sticker rather than things people are really requesting. I have a dealer who treats me very well and makes it hard not to trade. My 15 has things I wouldn't have classified as things I couldn't live with out but the packages almost force you to get them. Initial impressions, I only have 300 miles on the 15, doesn't seem to run in V4 mode as much as the 14 did on the highway, but time will tell, still running the dealer 87 gas in it and I only run 91 non corn gas. 15 has 3.23 rear gear, 14 had 3.42 gear. I also cut out the stupid flapper valve in the exhaust as soon as I get them. Buy what makes you happy, Good Luck!

I don't know where you live, but I've also had the same thought as to buying a used 14 with low miles. In looking at those, the price isn't more than 2-5 thousand difference from buying new from Laura GMC in Illinois. As soon as I get my car sold, I'm going to fly to St Louis and get a new Denali at Laura. That's only a 7-8 hr drive back home for me though.
