Air Intake

Can anyone with an Air Aid MIT or something like it take the specs off the pipe and post them please. Found some aluminum pipe here at work might as well not let it go to waste. Just need to know the diameter of the pipe outside to out side and maybe the length of pipe before it bends. Thank you in advance!!

aluminum pipe is just going to heat soak. just buy an MIT. isn't your time worth more than that?

No, I wanted to make mine I don't like the big box store look. Once I have the look I want, I plan to ceramic coat it as well so it will do just as well if not better than the big box store ones.

Ceramic coating keeps heat in, not sure how well it keeps heat out like you will want. Heat is an engines worst enemy except for the exhaust system. So I'm not sure if ceramic coating the air intake tube would help or actually make things worse.

I may just powder coat it then, but still not looking for people to tell me to just go buy something just looking for the specs off one that some one has that is all.

if you are going for looks, buy a plastic one and paint that. aluminum intake pipe works best with the engine off.

I made one out of pvc. I wouldn't recommend aluminum, like others said it will hinder performance by soaking up heat. I made mine with 4" pipe and 4"-3.5" couplers. I still have yet to paint it, but it livened up my exhaust, you can tell its getting more air now.

Without an in depth understanding of designing successful ducts and actual test data, you're just as likely to reduce the flow capability as increase it.

That would increase heat and drag as well.

Okay I purchased Thermo Tec from Jegs, now all I need is the specs off the pipe.I have a very good understanding of air movements and I am taking drag coefficients in consideration. If no one has the dimensions its fine I'll build it and post them for others.

I like this.....I think this is a good idea and it'll look even better painted, great work!

JCJ, do you have a good source you could purchase one and return it with out hassle?

Seems to be your only option considering everyone rather bash you than help you. Just because it's not an optimal material doesn't mean it's downright bad.

Almost every other intake on the market is made from aluminum. AEM and Takeda are two major companies I can think of that make theirs from AL

* what about wrapping your intake in exhaust heat wrap?

Thats awesome, Id have done that but I just bought a MIT last month.

No I asked the local shop but they weren't interested in me buying it and measuring it and returning it. Which was my mistake should have just bought it and then returned it. I bought a temp sleeve from Jegs, that says it blocks out 90% of the heat so just going with that. On the other note I will not be posting pictures to show how I did it since people just wanted to be so rude and bash what I was doing. Just wanted to say thanks heavyclay for the thoughts on the post.
