Man you're cheap

Thanks.... It's not something I wanted to waste money on as it literally adds no benefits other than sound. Plus I live in canada and it costs around $250 just for an airaid mit without the filter.,

No I asked the local shop but they weren't interested in me buying it and measuring it and returning it. Which was my mistake should have just bought it and then returned it. I bought a temp sleeve from Jegs, that says it blocks out 90% of the heat so just going with that. On the other note I will not be posting pictures to show how I did it since people just wanted to be so rude and bash what I was doing. Just wanted to say thanks heavyclay for the thoughts on the post.

I apologize if I came off as rude, I was just trying to be helpful and showed what I had done.

I don't see any bashing. It was all trying to explain how some of the details would make things worse. Bashing would be saying it's a stupid idea and not try to help you understand why something might make things worse.

If you're going to be part of any forum, especially if you will be regularly, then you'll need thick skin. If you can't handle this thread then I don't think you could handle someone not agreeing to your opinions or what you'd like to do. This forum has actually been the most helpful forum I've been on and that's why I'm very active on here and why I'm not on any other truck forum. Not being mean, just explaining the truth and some people (like me since I'm a smartass) may not word things the right way You want bashing, go to GMFullSize.

Lastly, the Airaid MIT tube I bought wasn't that expensive. It was about half the price of a full intake kit. I think plastic is the best material as far as I know. If you honestly want to build your own (which I'm not against at all) then maybe try PVC as suggested. The only thing is that personally I wouldn't like the ends of the elbow being wider so I'd rather have one smooth tube from filter box to the TB. If you look on here you might find someone with the MIT or KR kit (MIT tube plus the drop in filter for the factory box) for cheap. If you still want to go the aluminum pipe route and cover it with some kind of heat shield then try mocking up some vent tube or something with the stock intake tube off to get measurements.

Projectsummit my apologies, yours was help as well but I just can't stand when something is asked and people criticize the items or the materials you want to use. I should also in the same breathe say thank you as well I bought tubing like you did and did mock ups with it until i got it where I wanted it.

Can anyone with an Air Aid MIT or something like it take the specs off the pipe and post them please. Found some aluminum pipe here at work might as well not let it go to waste. Just need to know the diameter of the pipe outside to out side and maybe the length of pipe before it bends. Thank you in advance!!

Pry the lid off of your stock intake duct and check it out. It's molded in two halves Contrary to what some may think, it's not just a box.

Yup the stock intake is a tube, It's just a baffled tube with a big box for the breather lines to go into.

so when you log onto the forum and show everyone your square wheels you just want us to tell you "wow, that's great!" even though we learned 5,000 years ago square wheels don't work and we all use round wheels?

talk about insecure and myopic. we are trying to help you not hurt your feelings. you want to spend your time making a metal tube and then replace it eventually with a plastic tube because your computer is pulling assloads of spark timing then be my guest.

well thank you for being no help what so ever, and just coming in with your thoughts of negativity. Yep sounds cool good enough for me and when it breaks I'll buy another truck, and build another one. So you stay blissful and I'll have a ball..

Exactly. 300 for the Jr kit(plastic tube and a dry filter) and about 250 for the MIT. Not worth it for me as I know most intakes provide no benefits. If I could find a used MIT I would buy it. I really just wanted to make a bit more noise and didn't want to drop money on it.

I see... I put on my Jr. Kit and Borla ATAK the same time so I can't tell you which one caused more throttle response and power (it's probably the combination of the two) but man oh MAN they wake this truck up. There's no more 'lagging' and I get up to 100 km/h in no time.

And TBH dude... Rims, lift, and tires don't have any benefits either. Solely for appearance and more off-road capability (but who takes their $45k + truck in such intense off-roading they'll need the lift/tires).

Blacking out taillights have no benefits... painting parts of your truck have no benefits.. I could go on and on.

I do know that $300 dollars on my $60k truck is miniscule. If you can't afford that then I dunno how you're making your payments.

It's not that I cant afford it. It's that I couldn't justify the cost for the benefits. I'm much more likely to invest money in something that improves the looks. Exhaust and intake did help mine too, I wouldn't say "Oh man" about it though. I guess your butt dyno is pretty good cause the actual 0-60 times might increase by about .25 of a second with those mods.

If you think you have no more throttle lag, get a tuner and you'll really be blown away.

Also to clear up why I made that intake... I had almost all the stuff laying around, it cost me less than $20 to get the rest that I needed. It was simply just because I was bored and wanted to see if it made an difference.

No, I wanted to make mine I don't like the big box store look. Once I have the look I want, I plan to ceramic coat it as well so it will do just as well if not better than the big box store ones.

Coating it like that is going to make it worse and increase your air intake temp., not a good idea.

If you don't like the look of the air tube, coming up with your own measurements is probably the best thing to do. All aftermarket air tubes sre damn near identical in appearance.

A home made aluminum ceramic coated air tube will not perform better than any plastic aftermarket tube. It's your truck though so have at it.

$40K + pickup, why not bulid frankenparts and hope they work.

People here know what they are talking about and are only trying to help. It takes more than bending scrap aluminum and adding coatings to make a goid intake tube. All of the best performing tubes are plastic.
