Smoked Tail Light Covers

I don't see how they can be legal and why someone would risk their and others safety. You can't see the brake or turn signals ( if used) especially in morning or afternoon sun. Old faded and scratched covers are really bad. A Ram truck with blacked out lights almost got rear ended yesterday afternoon in Knoxville, could barely see brake lights.

Now a days people are just having them tinted, even headlights. I like looks, but I'm not going to make something unsafe just for looks and if I need something that has to be functional I take functional first and then look at how I can make it look good. Like my toolbox, a lowpro one wouldn't be tall enough so I don't mind a full size toolbox. If I were to get different headlights or taillights I would only get ones with a clear lens.

Tint seems to be more clear and looks good, came upon a slow moving tractor other day and could barely see the flashers on the escort truck because of old faded black covers

Mine are tinted (not nearly as dark as the ones in the op) and you can see mine just fine. But I agree, those in the picture are DARK

This is how I smoke things. I don't know how many times I've almost run into a car or truck that has smoked tail lights. It's usually in the late afternoon, that is the worst condition to see darkened tail lights.

Because some people take the coolness look over safety but trust me those tail light covers are illegal and the truck or car displaying those covers if rear-ended will be that vehicle's fault.

I see at least 1 vehicle a day were they have "tinted" the taillights and went way to far to the point that in daylight you cant even see them at all. Guy the other day had tinted the 3rd brake light as well though not as dark as the taillights, it was the only way you could see the brake light.

I wish our state would get an inspection process back on the books again, that would stop this crap pretty quick.

Mine are vht black and with my led lights they are 100% visible.

Any tint on talis is illegal. I have had a ticket for smoked LED tails. In mine you could still see the reflectors. So many people get away with it. People will keep tinting or covering until the citation comes with points and a fine more than $50

I've been stopped before and I told them they are visible from 500 feet and he can't ticket me. He realizes I know the law and I'm free.

I'm actually trying to figure out how to make mine brighter to match my LEDs on my jonboat trailer. You can see the trailer brakes light up a LONG way away.

I didn't even like how the DRLs made the front turn signals hard to see in daylight so I changed them to an extra turn signal.

Actually this is not accurate as federal DOT regulations superceed city/state laws. DOT regulations state the tail lights cant be smoked or tinted and are to be of a red color for the brake lights in the USA, if all of those tinted lights were legal then they would all carry a DOT # on them which they don't.

While you might be the exception to the norm, most go way to far. I am sure the process starts as "oh 2 coats and these look nice, if 2 coats looks nice maybe 4 coats will look better. Well if 4 coats look awesome, maybe 8 coats will be perfect..." and thus the vicious cycle continues.
