Crew cab standard box 1500 are few compared to the crew cab short box 1500.

Anyone know the percentage or number of trucks built with short bed vs standard bed?

I don't know what the actual percentage is but it is VERY low - across all manufacturers. I looked at Ford, GM, and Ram and the number of standard boxes that were available were extremely limited. When I questioned why the dealers just shrugged and said because that's what most people are buying. Took me over a month of constant looking to find exactly the one I wanted.

Thank you. Is one of the short box a special order? Just curious if there are more short or standard boxes on the used market 2014

Crew Cab Short Box is the most common configuration.

It's very low.

My local dealer has 113 Silverado 1500's, only 2 of them are Crew Standard. I had to drive 3 hrs to Charlotte to get my truck.

Crew Cab Short Box: length 230.03 in. Wheel Base 143.5 in

Double Cab Standard Box length 230.03 in. Wheel Base 143.5 in

Crew Cab Standard Box: length 239.57 in. Wheel Base 153,0 in

I had a 2005 2500HD CC Standard Box {6.5'}. Used it mostly for towing. Loved it for Towing. Didn't use it much around town or day to day. With the 6.0L V8 it drank gas but worse it had the longer wheel base -great for towing - but the turning radius was too long for parking spaces in most lots. Not much fun to drive and park in town.

So I sold the 2500HD - and bought a 1500 Double Cab with Standard Box. The Perfect combination for me.. Especially since Chevy/GM added regular doors to the rear. In the five years I had my 2500HD I can recall only two or three times I had 4 people in it. 99% of the time the rear seat was for the Dog, or for storage.

The Double Cab gives me the shorter wheel base, rear area for the Dog/Storage and a Standard Bed - with I find much more useful than the short beds.

I think that is why most people in the 1500 CC's want the short box - to get the short wheelbase. But if you don't really always need to carry 4+ people.. the Double Cab is GREAT..

FWIW,

Carl B.

I think if you want it to fit in a "standard" garage, CC shorty bed is only option. I believe this is why all truck makers started the 1/2-ton crew cabs with 5.5' beds (that, and they could use extended cab frame).

I have the double cab/standard bed, and agree with Carl B. Perfect for my uses.
