How is this NOT illegal!!???!

I was driving from Detroit to Toledo, possibly speeding in the never ending construction zone....saw 2 "cops" tailing me so I pulled off at the next exit to get coffee and not deal with them following me for the next 10 miles of construction zone.

They exited too. F. I pulled into the gas station, they both came in too. Double F...guess I'm getting pulled over??

2 douche bags pulled up on both gas pumps on either side of me and get out...

to get gas...whew!

Then I saw theses douchers didn't have guns...then I looked at the "police" car and saw it was Chevy marketing their tahoes as "police" cars?

These clowns were definitely not cops, they were dressed in business slacks and polo shirts that with Chevy on them.

WTFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF.....how is that not illegal???

See pic.

Did you happen to talk to them, and ask them what the vehicles were being used for? I bet that would have solved this riddle.

Lol you guys are wierd. First off these are real police units. Just cause the lights are clear doesn't mean they don't emit red or blue when turned on. Second, those guys were delivering the truck to a police department that purchased said truck or showing it off a a local show meant for police.

Well, good thing they weren't real cops considering you may have been speeding in a construction zone. That being said, i don't think there is anything illegal with civilians driving cop cars, as long as they aren't turning on the lights and siren.

Would be a big issue up here in Canada, specifically in British Columbia. I have seen "OUT OF SERVICE" with light bar covers on the lights on some police units going in for service, clearly showing that the unit was out of service.

Chevrolet must have some massive liability insurance on their hands, cause if something was to go down, with one of their demo police units around holding itself out to be a police officer and no action was taken well.. lawsuit city.

How so? Dispatch would not be able to contact that vehicle because it is not in service. And there is no officer behind the wheel. Soooooo, it's not really a cop car at that point.

Firetrucks are delivered the same way. And they aren't going to stop for an emergency en route to their buyer.

Not close to illegal, at least in America. Been working around cop units for over 35 years and most of them do not have full service mechanic bays, although they may have someone to change a flat or maybe the oil. So whenever major work needs to be done, usually a civilian driver or may be a desk cop takes the truck to a local shop to get work done. Vehicle base station radios are operational, but the driver does not have an on-duty call sign. Don't confuse this with what Chevy did, the driver (who may be a desk cop) does have the capability to call in something out of order.

Just wanted to chime in and leave this here:

This looks to be the exact vehicle you ran across.

These are promo vehicle that are shown to PD's that are looking into purchasing these Tahoe's as police units. In Texas they would have to actually attempt to pull someone over for it to be considered a violation. But I would also like to say that it's pretty stupid to be driving this thing around as a civilian. Police typically have a duty to act and these yahoo's are screwed if the SHTF and everyone starts looking at them.

http://codes.lp.findlaw.com/txstatutes/PE/8/37/37.11 read here and notice that intent is a huge part of what makes the violation.

Also as far as the lights go, it has nothing to do with their color. We have clear bars on our units but they are colored LED's (red/blue/white).

Yes that is exactly what the vehicle was. Very interesting. Thanks!
