Fuel Capacity

I have a '15 Z71 Crew Cab 5.3L and looking online I see I have a 26 gallon tank.

 

So on the last fill-up the orange low fuel light was on and the fuel gauge was at the red but yet I could only put 21.6 gallons into the truck? I asked the dealer and they didn't offer any feedback. I was thinking something with my fuel gauge calibration is off?

They don't make any claim as to how much fuel is remaining when the low fuel light comes on. The OM does just the opposite, and points out that the fuel gauge is likely to have variation.

Odd, I don't have this issue with my '11 2500HD. When the light comes on in it, I can pretty much fill it to near the tank capacity.

 

As for the new truck, the fuel gauge I guess is simply put really unaccurate I guess.

I have only had my light come on twice. Both times there was 4 gallons left (put 22 gallons in)

Ok. Well I'll assume GM made it so there was a "4 gallon" reserve.

 

I do not intentionally let the truck get down under 1/4 tank 99% of the time.

When my light comes on I usually put in about 22 gallons.

 

They do that so people don't run the gas tank dry....that would be bad news for the motor.

Mine takes 22 gallons when the light comes on. Even though it usually says I have 50 - 60 miles range left. So that tells me that there is about 1 more gallon left if I were to drive another 60 miles and burn another 3 gallons of gas.

 

I don't mind it lying to me if I still have a gallon of gas when it says I have no range left. It could be the other way around, and you could be bone dry empty.

ALL 2011+ 2500's have the 36 gal/133 L tank.

 

2010 and older had 26 gal/98l with 6.5 ft and 34 gal/128l with the 8ft.

Fuel capacity is another advantage of curret versions of HD standard bed vs 1500 standard bed.

 

Can you tell I miss my Dmax?
