And update for the better? Clunk be gone?

I am the op on this thread, http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/169997-transmission-fix-finally-for-14-15-sierra-silverado-woooot/and I took my truck in last week for an oil change, they flashed the computer with this update and since my truck shifts like trash. Worse than ever possibly, very noticeable on the street. I am taking it back this week for my guy to flash whatever update he did before. Man I cannot believe the difference from what my truck was like from this thread to how bad it behaves now. Whether towing loaded or just regular driving it seems just horrid.

I will see if I can't watch my guy do what he did and see if he is hooking up to a gm computer or something else. Really sad that the truck acts like this out of the box, honestly my only disappointment other than the headlights.

I see that in the opening post of this thread you stated a "beta" version of a Transmission update... Is that update and the one you just had one in the same? My update was for the transfer case.

At first when I saw this thread I thought that was possible and it finally came out. Didn't even ask for the upgrade and after having it done while in for an oil change without my knowledge I can say that from the original tune or update that started my original thread, to this update is black and white. This update is horrible and may have fixed the issue of engagement of 4wd in cold weather which I never had even in 30 below montana winter, but absolutely ruined what was done before to my truck. My guy still swears that it is a gm update they are testing that he put on, and obviously it was not detectable when the other tech ran the update or it would have shown on my paperwork like I would assume an aftermarket tune would be. However from how my truck ran before to now is beyond noticeable. My wife even complained "god is your transmission going bad" today after the first time she rode in it with me. Clunking and searching and very out of order. For her to notice as much as she did and repeatedly saying "yeesh that sounds terrible" made me realize it wasn't just me being ocd. Sad that gm hasn't taken action knowing what is going on, my thread has plenty of views for a reason and they know it. Sadly it seemed with the way my truck was before with stronger firmer shifts and driving like a truck should, that it actually got better mileage I believe to not hunting gears so much and giving the driver more control over what the truck does. Now it just feels like knee-jerk reactions by the transmission.

Why not just get your buddy to tune it again...

Why not just get your buddy to tune it again...

Exactly what I plan on doing. As said in my original post the truck felt tuned. Honestly if it is I wouldn't even care as I love the truck so much more, but just want to really know what he is doing without being too pushy or weird. I would love to know and spread the word. Years ago I had a blackbear tune on my denali yukon and it was amazing, and this feels the same when it was tweaked before getting the update in this thread.

OK, just wanted to make sure we were discussing the same "update".

I do remember the indecisiveness of the transmission shifts and what I can only explain as "do I want to shift now or wait a bit" mentality of the trans before.

My BB tune was installed when they did the update to the TCM and I am currently back to the stock trans tune because I actually like it better than with the BB tune. My trans will now shift at 1400 if I am taking off slowly and that is the way I expect it to shift... where as with the BB tune it seems like it wants to run up the rpms on an easy or soft pedal start.

I posted the question on the actual process of installing these software updates... like our computers they sometimes act up and updates don't get installed properly.

I do not have any knowledge of the process that the dealer uses, but wonder if this couldn't play a part in some of these issues.

Best of luck getting this worked out.

Wait, it sounds like we are NOT talking about the same tune... What is your Buddy adjusting? TCM or Transfer case module?

This is what I am hoping to find out when I go back in.

Haven't seen you post about your "buddy's" work on your truck... How did it go and what did he tune?

As I was driving home after I had the recall done these ^ are the same things that I noted. I feel like the truck dropped 2000 lbs. The truck feels "lighter" because the throttle requires a lot less input. It also seems to hold the 1-2, 2-3 shift a little longer. On the highway at 70mph, I tap the throttle and it goes from v4 to v8 with no hesitation. Before it would hold v4 as I applied more throttle, then it would switch to v8 and take off like a bat out of hell. I was gonna tune it, but in my opinion I don't need to now. Its amazing that such a seemingly small update could make such a big difference. It feel like a different truck now! Hopefully it doesnt just feel better because it was put back into "learn mode".

Arnold: I see from your sig that you're in South Jersey. Me too. Which dealer did you go to get this transfer case / bulletin recall work done? I'm thinking I might go to the same place. Thanks!

If you have a 4x4 check with the dealer... My 14 is a very early build and I did see improvement... Recall # 01320

Another good point. I have 3:08 gears but never had and shuttering or clunking: my issues were a flare shift between 2nd and 3rd, corrected by 3,5,R clutch pac replacement: and the "confusion" as I call it while transmission seems unsure if it wanted to shift or not. I even had shifts from 1st to 3rd before... So far it's like a school kid who got the ultimatum to straighten up or you'll get out.

No Tyme: Please tell me more about the 3,5,R clutch pac replacement. I searched the forum but could not find anything. I too have the 3.08 gears and flare shifts. I'm going to call the dealer about the transfer case recall and want to talk to them about the clutch pac replacement as well. Is there a bulletin # for the clutch pac replacement? Thanks in advance for any additional info!

My issue was a shift flare from 2nd to 3rd gear shift after a short shut down of a warm engine, and normally would only happen once, but on a few occasions it did happen on the second 2/3 shift after a quick stop and no shutdown.

It started around 10,000 miles on the odometer i believe so by 13,000 I had in in and dealer said they could not replicate.

I was contacted by a GM Customer Rep and was asked if I would take to another dealer for a second opinion, and I agreed. They again, because the truck sat for 57 minutes on a cool day, could not replicate, but did advised that it is one of two things wrong, electronic or hydraulic. They replaced the TCM and inspected and cleaned valve body, changed filter and fluid, but that did not take care for the issue. That was the cheaper of the 2 fixes and I always prefer to try the cheaper fix first before going to the higher cost fix.

Back to original dealer and it just so happened that they just repaired a similar transmission that had the same symptoms. I agreed to wait and see how that trans reacted to their work and after a week or 10 days the owner reported the problem was solved.

The dealer agreed to do the 3,5.R clutch pack replacement on mine and afterwards I have not had any issues whatsoever.

I still had the "confusion" trans shifting as I tried to explain in earlier posting in this thread, but that was greatly improved with the transfer case update that is being discussed in this thread.

Thanks for the detailed info. My situation is not like this at all. I get flare shifting through all gears under heavy acceleration. With accelerator pedal pushed down 3/4 to full, truck lurches between shifts and there is tach rise almost to red line with the delays in shifting. I plan to stopy by my dealer on Friday to discuss the 15304 recall / TSB, flare shifting and headlight upgrade. My build date appears to be 11/2014 from the door pillar decal. With this I'm guessing my truck falls in the VIN range for these issues. Thanks again for the info.

Well I went in the other day for a complimentary oil change and found out I have a software update recall? Haha it was for the 4 wheel drive apperently staying on in cold temperature. So they gave my truck the update and I have noticed since this update it's shifting has seemed to improve lots when I go from Park to drive it does not seem to drop into gear harder and even just driving everything seems much smoother and better operating. I'm not sure what this update they gave me consisted of or what it really changed but might be something to check out for guys.

My truck is a 2015 gmc sierra all terrain 5.3 to 6 speed auto

But figured I'd share my experience after driving it for a few days now after the update it just feels better I don't know how to describe it

My 2014 received this fix today. I didn't know it existed until they told me when I went in for the free oil change. What happened to telling owners there is a recall?

I talked with a GM Customer Service rep on this issue:

I posted a page or 2 back that I was told that only government mandated recalls are on the GM website. These government mandated recalls are like the ignition switch issues that GM has had over the years, and since this is NOT a government mandated recall it does not show up when you run your vin on the GM web site.

I haven't been told one way or another on GM's letter campaign, and I never did receive a letter on this software update, so I am assuming that is also attributed to NOT being a government mandated recall.

Anyone running their vin on the "My GM website" will only see Government Mandated recalls. This is what I was told...

Hope this clarifies.

As an update I have an appointment with local dealer for this coming Friday. They're taking care of the 15304 Transfer Case Recall and headlight update. Apparently there's another recall for a brake line bolt possibly being loose. They're also going to look into the flare shifting.

Hopefully they'll be able to resolve some of my drive-ability issues
