And update for the better? Clunk be gone?

Is it possible GM isn't disclosing the whole recall or bulletin and fixing things everybody was complaining about. I had mine done last week and didn't notice is clunking as bad, but didn't think much about it till this post. Would it be easier to just make these fixes and not advertise it, in order to save face?

My understanding from a GM customer rep is any recalls that "are mandated by the government", like the airbag recalls, will show up when you do a vin # search on GM's web site.

This recall, is a software update and is NOT mandated by the government, and will NOT show up on a vin # search that you can preform on GM's owner web site... But any dealer can do a vin search, using their method, and confirm if this recall is for your vehicle. The dealer has a different means of pulling up service bulletins, recalls etc...

No I got that. But what I was saying is this non mandated recall bulletin whatever you call it fixing things like shifting and throttle response in the background, or GM just not saying it is, but it is.

Well you sound a bit cynical about GM’s recall, as many may be… I know GM has gotten a lot of bad press with bad ignition switches and such but I really can’t answer your question. It might not be a priority for GM, it might be sporadic… kinda like my shift flare I once had between 2nd and 3rd gear. It happens to maybe 1 or 2 out of 1,000 transmission.

I went from a 2013 ext cab and traded it 6 months to the day for my 14, and don’t regret it. There may be a few things I don’t care for on my 14, and dread the lack of updates for the My Link system, but all in all I am very happy with my 14 Crew. It is a very quiet cab and gets very good gas mileage for a 4X4 Crew, and being a fairly loyal GM fan (not hard to tell my stable) I can overlook a few minor things…

As for me, I will load the stock trans tune tomorrow after my headlight swap and report back if I find any noticeable difference in tranny behavior. I’ll back that up with my BlackBear tune once they send me the updated files… The BlackBear TCM tune did wonders for me.

Thanks that would be cool.

Not cynical just curious, the tranny is bothersome at times with its bumps and hits, but its the same tranny that was in my F150 and they did the same things. As far as recalls this truck I have owned for two years and its on its 10th recall roughly?? Im a GM loyalist to be honest, but I think Im done with their trucks for awhile after this.

I just had the same experience with my dealership. I hadn't seen anything on the MyGMC site for this recall, but went to the dealer anyway to see if there was something I was missing. He confirmed what you posted (only gvmt recalls listed), and my truck (build April 2014) did indeed qualify for the update. Scheduled to go in the 27th of this month.

I'll post the results.

I dropped my truck off for some work today and had them check for the update. It does need the update. I'll report back with my build date and if there is any driving improvement when I pick it up.

I currently have a custom engine and trans tune, if I go to the dealer to get this done will it affect my current tune since they are only updating the Transfer case module? Or does the entire system get re-set to stock even though nothing is changed in the engine and trans tune?

how long did you guys have to wait at the dealership until they finished the update?

45 Mins for me. Update and Oil Change. Got there at 11 and was out the door at 11:45.

I had this update done, but to be honest I didn't notice much of a change. Drove down the road about 2-3 miles, pulled over and reinstalled my custom tune.

Also, a bit off topic, but when I picked my truck up from the dealership I noticed it was pretty clean. On my invoice I see they gave me a complimentary exterior wash. Never had or seen this done before from just dropping it off for service so that was a nice surprise. Here's the kicker tho...on my way home it started raining just about the same time I pulled out from under the cover of the service dept and poured on me all the way home. It hasn't rained in about a month. Funny how that happens..

I stopped in last Friday... Was going to schedule an oil change and they did it right there with the oil change. Maybe 50 minutes.

I have asked this question also... No one has answered for sure yet! :dunno:

I wanted to give it a bit before I reviewed update on drivability, I will say that shifts are more transparent and throttle response is better.

2014 5.3 v8 4wd. Had the update done, drives like a completely different truck. Finally, thank you GMC. Hope everybody else gets their issues squared away. My truck is an absolute joy to drive now for the first time, and also due the fact I can see at night now too since the headlight fix haha.
