The sticker on your driver's side door jamb/sill has the build date.

 

My 2014 truck has a June 2014 build date, I emailed my service advisor and he said it applies to much truck. Will take it in soon.

 

 

Thanks. Mine was built in 08/15. So maybe some of that has already been done on mine. Dunno. Still made that huge gosh awful clunk the other day on downshift.

I dropped my truck off today for a steering issue I was having. Right as I was walking out the door the service tech caught my attention and told me there was a recall with transfer case getting stuck in 4x4. Asked if it wanted it taken care of so of course I did. Pleasant surprise hearing what this does. I tuned back to stock right before I dropped it off so I'll see how it drives when I pick it up.

I ALSO would like to know the effected build dates for this recall. Does anyone have this info?

I have an appointment tomorrow morning for an oil change at my dealer. Every time I've gone in I've asked them to check for software updates. When I made the appointment they said their was a recall about the transfer case. I just stumbled upon this thread and am super excited as the transmission on this thing has been driving me crazy since day 1. I'm not easily impressed by things so I can assure you there will be no placebo effect there lol

Please let us know your impressions. I was shocked myself. Here's my service receipt. I didn't know they were performing the recall, but I noticed something different the minute i left the lot.

Is there a way to check the build date by the vin#? I am making a call to the dealership today to find out if my truck is eligible, But while I'm checking I was going to have them check my Dad's Vin and see if his is eligible also.

Yea, they will look up your truck in the system and check to see if your VIN is eligible.

Well, I just had the TCCM update done and to my dismay it made no change to my low speed clunk/thud. I was optimistic that this recall was going to be the answer, but it definitely was not. They are going to look at it with the PICO scope in a couple of weeks. we'll see what that brings!?

Got my update done and then reinstalled my 87 octane tune with firm shifts on and now I enjoy driving my truck even more than before! It can't get much better besides for the clunk when I put it into reverse..

My wife took the truck in for this update this morning and I have just finished my half hour test drive. All I can say is Wow! there is a significant difference in the truck no more clunk or confusion and hunting for which gear. You just need to touch the gas and it downshifts much quicker than before the shifts are smooth and seamless. This is the way the truck should have been off the assembly line. It's a pleasure to drive now. :driving:

Do you feel like the recall in addition to your tune made a difference in the way it drives? I have diablo intune and took the tune off just before dropping it off. My only complaint with the tune was it still shifted funny from 1-2, kinda jerky it felt like. Did this recall seem to help you?

Yes unless I'm just imagining it, the throttle response feels even better than before. The biggest difference is I have not once heard the downshift clunk but that happened with and without the tune. I'm happy now that it drives smooth and has no thuds while driving. I wouldn't say it drives completely different but there definitely is a noticible difference!

My build date is 5/15, so it looks like my issues, which are identical to others here won't be fixed!

      With large equipment or deep mud it is more of a use the higher gear to avoid spinning tires, getting stuck because of spinning tires and doing damage to your machine. The idea is if you run out of torque before you spin tires you can still downshift for more torque. If you are just spinning your tires in the lowest available gear you are stuck and things break.   Automatic transmissions, traction control and electronic transfer cases change the calculation a little as you the driver have less control over each piece.

      are there any codes? with lots of rust, perhaps disconnect/clean both sides of the connection/examine cable ends (the wires) for corrosion going into the sheath & replace if necessary/reconnect ALL the power AND ground cables between the battery, engine, frame, cab, fuse box and starter charm.li (website) has a no-start diagnostic procedure you can work through to get it working.

      Its no wonder you've gravitated to the oil types and brands you have in later years after trying certain brands and one being a specialty oil or at least very hard to come by up here and the other would have been a commonly found oil of the era and the vastly different outcomes as a result to using the vehicles in question the same distance for an OCI . It shows what marketing hype can do without actually having the product to back up the claims and that is no different now with the insane claims that are written on the side of a bottle of oil from some of the off the shelf oils.    What has surprised me and I was already finding this out before I bought my truck with the GDI engine, that this newer fancy technology that seemingly would suggest better fuel economy/emissions with this high pressure spray of fuel is not in reality kind at all to the engine or at least the oils life. Yet they insist on claiming long OCI with this technology just like they did with the port or similar type fuel injection systems when in reality its a step back in oil life to have a GDI system.    I think the mistake your making Grumpy is that your not sending your samples to Blackstone and getting the feel good glowing report that you can run it another 1000 or more miles and then send another sample where they say run it yet another 1000 miles and on and on it goes until your sending in something that looks a lot like road tar and then they may suggest you change your oil within the next 1000 miles 😆

      I am guessing that engines of that design back then had a better ability to be abused and survive longer than a new design engine with the long timing chain and the overhead cams and phasers etc. But I would never guess that an engine could go that far and not fail spectacularly or at least die a slow death.
