And update for the better? Clunk be gone?

Guys, I just called the dealership and talked to them about this. This is classified as a recall, number 15304. But it's for the transfer case. It can lock up and stay in 4hi under certain conditions when its below a certain temperature. I have not had an issue with this happening, but I have an appointment for 10am on Saturday morning to have it flashed.

This should not effect the transmission at all, so I don't know why some of you are saying it's improved shifting. The procedure calls for reprogramming the transfer case shift module.

That's what I thought too, and yet I swear it felt smoother immediately after the flash (and before I even stumbled across this thread). I might be crazy, but at least I'm consoled there are many of us having similar delusions...

If this is indeed just a transfer case update then it is hard to understand why the vehicle would drive differently. I thought I read on another thread that this update also addressed overall driveability? Did any of you that received this update have the low speed deceleration clunk/thud? Did you notice any improvement with that?

I had the clunk thud. I don't know unless this update is all linked together. Who knows all I know my truck runs a lot better. Unless they are doing us a solid and tweaking the tranny why the have it plug in. Easy for them to do. I'm not complaining.

I thought it was just me..... Makes things Much More Gooderer....lol

Right, but it's still pointing at transfer case controller, not PCM/BCM/ECM/etc. Guess it could also have applied something to those, but who knows.

Well I can say my truck drives much nicer after I don't know why or what really is in that flash but I recommend it if you can get it

Just had my recall done also on the 5th. I really don't notice much change if any. Only have 5500 miles on the truck so I probably wouldn't notice. I just hope it is good for the cold. Also had recall 15203 done.

Mine was done 2 weeks ago. Listed as a recall on the invoice. Mine definitely seems less confused in stop and go traffic. There is still some occasional "clunking", but I no longer have the "bump" on downshifts. I think there is more to this than just the transfer case hanging up.

Scheduled for Tuesday. I hope this helps...

BTW...DOSSITT BIG 4 in Tupelo, MS has an excellent service department and has always been helpful when they can. Couldn't help with chipped bumper but that is a over their head.

I have an appointment scheduled for this Saturday. I am going to revert to my stock ECM and TCM tunes using my Autocal.

Then after the new update is installed, I am going to scan the ECM and TCM tunes. I will then send those files over to the folks at Blackbear to compare to my originals and see if there was any difference. I will report back with my findings.

I hope something can be found and look foward to it. That may help 2wd guys as well.

Another update, I just emailed Justin at Blackbear and he replied and said that the new "smoothness" could be from the update making the Transfer case handle torque better. But the TCM and ECM should remain unchanged.

Thanks to this post, my truck is scheduled for this service update next thursday. I stopped into my local dealer and had them check my vin. Sure enough it's listed as needing the update, so I scheduled the truck.
