Thanks to this thread I was made aware of the driveability benefits of this recall. My local dealer was able to get me in fairly quickly, and I had my update on Friday. I was skeptical that a transfer case recall would have any kind of benefit to driveability, especially when some mentioned that they watched the tech not make any changes to the TCM on their scan tool. I've been very vocal about my truck, and the fact that it never should have left the factory the way it was tuned. I've now had the chance to drive the truck for the weekend, and can say that the recall made a world of difference for me. Below are a few improvements that I noticed:

1. The truck no longer lunges or lurches forward during 1-2 shifts with very light throttle input.

2. Under medium to hard acceleration, the truck no longer lunges or lurches forward when upshifting. It now feels like my previous hydraulically shifted transmissions.

3. Downshifts are much smoother, and hardly noticeable now. Before, my truck would almost go into what I'd call a transbrake mode. The truck would feel like the brakes were applied, and it would clunk / downshift. This was very annoying.

4. While coasting, the truck seems to stay in the proper gear. When I get back into the gas, the truck picks back up in the same gear without clunking or hesitating. Before, I would often get the same clunk / downshift scenario noted in point #3. When it does need to downshift to accelerate, the downshifts seem smoother.

Although the transmission is still not perfect compared to my previous GM trucks, it's actually somewhat driveable now. I'm interested to see the differences in the files from the guys that recorded the before and after data so we know exactly what changed. I also find it interesting that the change was passed along with a transfer case recall, and we wouldn't have known about it if it weren't for people posting that their trucks drove way better after the recall.

After driving around for a day with the new update, highway and city, I can tell a significant difference. The truck feels more composed and the weird clunk on downshifts and surge on upshifts are pretty much gone.

+1. But my ticket (will upload when I can) did not mention anything about improving drivability, just staying locked in 4wd. But so far no clunk but i am still skeptical and will see what the next few weeks do.

As I was driving home after I had the recall done these ^ are the same things that I noted. I feel like the truck dropped 2000 lbs. The truck feels "lighter" because the throttle requires a lot less input. It also seems to hold the 1-2, 2-3 shift a little longer. On the highway at 70mph, I tap the throttle and it goes from v4 to v8 with no hesitation. Before it would hold v4 as I applied more throttle, then it would switch to v8 and take off like a bat out of hell. I was gonna tune it, but in my opinion I don't need to now. Its amazing that such a seemingly small update could make such a big difference. It feel like a different truck now! Hopefully it doesnt just feel better because it was put back into "learn mode".

I would have to agree with this post. Everything seems to be jiving nicely together.

Just to update I went and took the truck for another quick ride...yeah its definitely a huge difference! I even made the wife drive it because she too always thought it drove funny. We didnt even make it a 1/4 mile and she said its a huge difference. She said "it feels like a normal car now". Guess I don't have to tune it now or trade it in! Hopefully it stays this way! Whoever put out the initial programming should be immediately fired...jus sayin! Sorry to keep going here but I am happy as hell!

This is making me jealous. Wish we could get a fix for the 2wd guys!

I just want to comment on the highway acceleration in one of the recent posts. I agree 100% with that. I was doing about 60 on the highway and had to accelerate around a truck. I got on it a little and it down shifted and picked up QUICK! I was impressed. It was a smooth downshift to, no wierd clunking or hunting for the right gear.
