My sons 15 Suburban did a shut down and lost steering among other things 3 times. Took to the dealership they say they cant get it to do it. Did it again she (his wife) set up and got it on video. It's at the dealership now. I can't imagine them keeping it.

Any resolutions for the stabiltrak issue. Same thing happened to me as I was turning at a caution light. I almost got smashed by the oncoming cars as my steering locked up and jolted and engine shut down along with everything else. The service manager gave me the runaround at my last service and I now believe they did nothing beyond testing to resolve this. I have had it with this truck. I thought it was fixed but now it is a death trap. Does anybody know how to get in contact with GM to report this system failure before somebody gets killed from not knowing the danger they are in. I will have to file a lawsuit if nobody at the dealership will not step up and claim responsibility. Please help. Thanks.

GM will only do something about it once the death tolls start to rise to a point where it's costing them a bit too much to settle lawsuits out of court.

Just to clarify.....when this happens, is it harder to steer, or do you lose total control of vehicle direction ?.....does the steering wheel "Lock Up" as if the key was removed ?.....can this happen just driving down the Interstate ?

When my 2014 had this issue, it would yank the steering wheel right out of your hands while driving down the road.  Did it to me a couple times, and the wife.  I sold it soon after that when the dealer claimed they couldn’t find anything wrong.  That was the last straw for that truck.

You would be driving down the road and suddenly  the wheel would be pulled from your grip and change vehicle direction !?.....HOLY CRAP !

That's EXACTLY what happens with this issue.  First you start getting Stabilitrak errors, then other errors, and eventually the wheel will be jerked out of your hands.  When the dealer checks for codes there will be anywhere from 8 to 30 codes thrown so it is very difficult to troubleshoot.

Make sure your dealer tries EVERYTHING in PIT5405.  Sometimes the G218 ground fixes it, sometimes it's replacing the battery cables.  There are also a few other things in that PIT that the dealer is supposed to check to troubleshoot the issue.

Thank you. GM needs to step up and take care of this. So this is what I get for $600.00 a month, I think my GM truck days are coming to a bitter end. Hard to believe nothing is being done to resolve this cluster. Makes you wonder about head on collisions with fatalities where nobody survives to explain why a truck would just radically jump the median on the interstate and crash head on with oncoming traffic. Nobody can tell the story. Screw that.

I bought my 2015 Silverado used 14 months ago from a major dealership. They sold me this truck knowing it had safety issues (to put it lightly) among other things that I will not get in to right now. I think that makes me more mad than anything. It is all a gimmick with used trucks. They put a patch over it just long enough to make a sell and the have the audacity to bill the customer when it is brought back to repair or attempt to repair the mess they covered up. There is no doubt in my mind that the dealership knew this beforehand. I may run this matter by legal counsel and see what the law has to say about putting families lives at risk and falsifying documents to make a sell.

If I trade this truck to purchase a different automobile them all that is going to do is pass the risk on to somebody else and put their life or family in danger.

I do know that it all stems from pressing the brake pedal.it happened 3 more times today.

* Brake and turn

* Steering wheel jolts aggressively and locks up

* All electronics shutdown

* Engine shuts down

* Stabilitrak error on display

* Park assist disabled on display

I wonder if GM has performed a meaningful Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) on these systems to see what the worst case failure is and how the effects of the worst case failure are mitigated to an acceptable level.

In any case, the system failure should be to a safe state, brakes and steering should still work. When your power steering or power brakes booster fails on a traditional set up, you still have steering and brakes, you just need more force to control them.

What (pm26) stated is 100% correct, I am a car and light truck rebuilder and I can tell you from our own experience the following: if all modules don't communicate with each other for whatever reason (malfunction, cut wires, etc.) or even if the battery is completely dead or even cables of battery become loose and the vehicle becomes completely without power, the steering of the vehicle will still work and also the brakes will also still work, they will only become harder to steer and brake.

Probably why there is a recall.
