To me, wheel spacers seem dangerous. They make wheel bearings wear out faster, and are prone to failure in general. To each his own.

is it any different than having an aftermarket wheel with more offset?...

Yes. Because a wheel spacer adds another fastener to the situation. So more opportunity for failure.

An aftermarket wheel with more offset is all one unit bolted up to the OE hub. But it is true that aftermarket wheels with more offset than stock wheels can cause wheel bearings to wear out faster. But I think that's more common when larger heavier tires are installed too.

I'm not against aftermarket wheels by any means. But I am against wheel spacers. I would never run them and I think they are unsafe for On-road use.

Wheel bearing wear will be accelerated by either one.

Most wheel spacers are dangerous. I cringe when I read posts where someone mentions they threw some universal ebay spacers on their truck. One of the few safe wheel spacers are made by these guys:

They're billet aluminum and precision machined for the vehicle they're being installed on. Being hubcentric, the load is transferred safely to the hub.

agreed. I believe if you buy hub centric, quality wheel spacers you will be ok. I had them on my jeep grand cherokee for 2 years and had no issues, but i did take my wheels off and always check to make sure the inner bolt pattern was tight! And yes wheel bearings and other components will wear faster blah blah blah sounds like my dealership yelling at me for putting aftermarket windshield wipers on might risk scratching the windshield haha

sorry to derail the thread!

your punishment is you have to remove your airdam now haha :rollin:

I think I am gonna trim it. I do a decent amount of highway driving and would like to retain at least some of the under body slip stream if at all possible.

Removed mine today. Looks 100x better in my opinion. Not sure when I didn't want to take it off on the last truck, a snow pile took it off pretty easily. This one I decided I would take it off before that happened again......12 screws later I was ready to just rip it off. Pretty easy to take off, just a pain.
