2016 LEDs in 2014/2015 Trucks

Two questions...

1. Anybody know what type of LEDs are used in the new Sierra headlights? Brand, part numbers, size?

2. Anybody know if they will fit in the 2014/2015 Sierras without modification?

Thanks.

The Sierra's would be similar, but I looked into the '16 Silverado LTZ when it came into the shop and compared it to my 15. the 16 has a whole different wiring harness and no more junction block in the rear. It would require a lot of modification in the rear. As for the front, a brand new front end would be needed.

Hope this helps. I was bummed too!

I think the projectors in the Sierra would be similar enough to just swap the bulb / elements. You may have to replace the entire projector, but I would think it would be do-able,

Just not cost effective.

- No service bulbs for the LED headlamps on 2016 Sierra, would require the whole lamp (if a person has an issue down the road). The only pieces they sell are the headlamp control module and the headlamp itself. Each lamp retails to the tune of $1160.

- Being the lamps appear to be different than 2015, I am going with a no on fitment.

^ yep, look ay a 15 and a 16 and you will see that the projector is larger on the 16s. So, no projector swap.

Thanks. So if a "bulb" goes out, it's $1160 to replace? Ouch!

Yikes!

I wonder if, since technically LED's are electrical components and not maintenance items like bulbs, if a failed headlight would be covered under warranty?

To the original question though, I have the XenonDepot LED's that are plug-n-play, and I'm very happy with them. When people ride in my truck at night they always comment what bright headlights I have. Quite different from the stockers!

I'm probably going to go with these XD LED bulbs as well. I was wondering what GM was using in the 2016 to make sure there wasn't another option to consider. $2300 is not an option I plan on considering.

$1000 for tail lights? no way.. Another boat load of cash for the headlights.. I would trade in on a new 2016 before I spent all this money trying to make an older truck like a 2016.

That is the first set I've ever seen for sale.

Take out one of your tail lights real quick and look at the connector.

My money is on it being different. Tail lights would be the easier modification thought.

They are now on eBay, considering buying them for my '15 Sierra but looks like the wiring is different.

Anybody tried?

The LED from 2016 will not work properly in the housing of a 14/15. Nor will any LED headlights for that matter. The best option is still HID if you do not wish to use a true LED projector. LED in 14/15 housings will throw really bright light, but very scattered. I went from stock halogens to LED (which was a marked improvement in the sense of amount of light, though less distance illuminated), then to HID and the HID's are much better in pattern and amount of light. I also went with HID high beams, which light up for a freakin mile
