Range AFM question

Hello, I want to get rid of the AFM and keep my warranty, this would make the Range a dead ringer for me especially at $150.

However I have read many reviews of people having to un-plug / re-plug it every time they drive. I've also read that it drains your battery pretty fast. This makes me just want to get the Diablo intune2 and chance it because I won't deal with that hassel.

Have the issues been ironed out or are they still issues? I haven't found anything recent with the device. I appreciate responses. Thanks!

had lots of trouble with mine threw lots of codes, and the dealer could hardly get rid of them, even sent it in for 2 updates, i just drive in 5 (2014 5.3) junk

Those issues have been ironed out, I beta tested for them with the last version. I would just suggest unplugging it if your truck is going to sit for a week or longer.

Ive had one for over a year in a 2010 and in a 2015 and it works as advertised. The 2010 had occasional issues working while plugged in, I had to reseat it a few times but no issues in the 2015

I got mine from my son who tuned out AFM on his 2010 Silverado and had it upgraded. No issues using it on my 2014 Silverado, except it ran the battery down when I left it plugged in for 5 days without without running.

I just started using mine again, left it in the truck plugged in for 3 days, NO issues.

It only sits at most 3 days. That does concern me Giley, was yours a new updated version?

I would rather just get the intune i2 and be done with it and not worry about the plug. Im very happy with my intune and all i did was keep the factory tune minus the AFM with a 10 % throttle boost and also removed the speed limiter. Truck drives like I would expect should in the first place now. Theres nothing "seamless" about the AFM system. I really hated it and it bothered me every time I drove the truck. Now its gone and Im a happy owner. As far as the warranty goes, I was willing to take my chances because if not I was going to be rid of the truck. I dont think I will have any problems with warranty service, at least I better not if my dealer wants me to continue purchasing Silverados and Tahoes every few years. I didnt change from the stock tune except the AFM.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will give it a try and just return it if I have issues. There are a lot of hills around my area and the AFM is constantly turning on and off. It's just bothersome as I can feel it.

For a little more cash, you can get an a Diablo In-Tune and you'll be MUCH HAPPIER in the long run. The In-Tune offers better throttle response and many more options.

It sounds like batman doesn't want to risk warrantee issue. Some advice, buy directly from Range. Or you will most likely need to send back for free upgrade. Kind of a hassle.

Yeah pretty much correct about the warranty stuff. I've had tuners in the past and no doubt they are better. Ty on the tip to buy from Range.

FYI... My wife purchased a Range device for me directly from Range around April of 2014. It was supposed to be their latest version. It eventually started to give me stabilitrak and brake assist codes. I also ran into the battery drain issue after a 4 day trip without unplugging it. Range customers service was very difficult to get ahold of using their website, or by calling them. I eventually found an email address to someone from Range from this forum. They answered me quite quickly, but said I shouldn't be having the issues with the software version I had. Long story short, it went to eBay to a 2012 Camaro owner, and I went another direction. The concept is great, but there are issues with these trucks, even with the latest software updates. I believe others have had similar issues.

I have had the range in since July and not a single problem, I forget it even on there. I bought directly from Range. My truck sat for several times over the summer for more than 2 weeks and not battery problems whatsoever.

I agree, buy directly from Range. Any other source you cannot be sure if its the latest model. I would not buy used either, used electronics are a gamble.
