Leather wrapped shifter swap?

Recommended Posts

Does anyone know if the leather wrapped shifters from the escalades will work in our trucks? I know in the older year models it was a direct swap.

Anyone have a way of looking the part number up?

Thanks

I used a couple write-ups to install mine, they are for the older generation but quite similar to our trucks, the shifter is different though!

Got my leather shifter. Now it's time to install. The links are very helpful, but I was wondering how you got the top and bottom cover off? One write up says to check for bolts...another video of an older model shows bolts. Did you have to remove bolts or push one side for it to pop up? I'd like to know specifically how the 2014 cover is attached. The rest seems pretty straight forward. Thanks

Got her done. The pictures on SilveradoSierra were very helpful. But as YQatari says, our 2014s are a little different. Thanks to YQatari, I figured out that I had to lower the top of the knee bolster by removing two T20 screws and pulling toward me, grasping it near the steering wheel. Also, I fully extended the steering wheel toward me as I sat in the driver seat and tilted in down. This allowed access to the back of the cover so that I could separate the top and bottom - starting along the back sides.

This also allowed access to the wire and plug. I used a small screw driver to push the keeper and pry out the stock connector. Installing the new shift lever was a breeze. Moved the boot from the stock lever to the new one and bolted it in place. Ran the wire along the obvious path to the connector and plugged it in. Made sure to plug in cable keepers where the stock cable was. Next challenge was to line up the top and bottom and snap the pieces together. I usually take my time on these things so that I don't break anything. Total time 1 hour including washing my hands and taking pictures.

It took more time to get the covers off and back on than to install the lever and test. Thanks to everyone for their comments.

Very nice. I am planning to do this mod.

Did you pull the bottom cover towards you will sitting in the seat (horizontal pull) or while under the column (downward pull)?

Knee bolster and top of cover while sitting in the seat. Bottom cover from under the column. Once you get the top separated, the bottom cover comes right off.
