DIY Led bed lights

Awesome, I have some extra terminals like that lying around. How does it stay in the white drilled hole without moving? I haven't gotten under the truck yet, but I'm guessing where the white plug goes back there's a male end there?

Yes there are a couple of male terminals. Make sure u drill the right holes and make sure u know which one is + n -. Silver in my pic is -. I drilled the holes just big enougj for it to fit snug, then a little silicone to seal it up. Make sure ur orientaion is right otherwise female wont fit onto male. Hope this helps

Awesome, gonna order some led strips and tackle this next week, as I am installing my BAK Revolver X2 tonneau on Friday.

So when this is setup like this, the bed lights work with the cargo light engaged correct? Also gonna do do the diode install where the cargo lights come on with the reverse so when you hit the unlock button, they will come on.

I did something similar, except i used 2 strips of LEDs for each side. 1 downward projecting and 1 side projecting. The amount of light output is insane. My build thread (http://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/topic/174571-my-bed-lighting-project/?hl=bed+lighting+project)

So are you guys purchasing these plugs or are you just splicing into the existing ones?

I want to add some LED to my truck as I have a bed cover and its difficult to see at night however I want to keep the factory look and hok it up such that it turns on with the Cargo Lamp switch.

Any help would be great fellas, Thanks

Yes they will come on with the switch. I jsed a piece of wire instead of diode.

Take the white plug off behind the bumper and drill out the 2 holes.

If anyone is looking for a part # for the terminals the closet thing I have been able to find to what GM uses is N 906 844 05 which is actually a VW part number. xelli also found a .pdf that shows 1-968857-3 terminals will work in this connecter. An open barrel crimping tool with the appropriate die works best for crimping these types of terminals.

Nice work, did pretty much the same thing today on my truck! GM is outta their mind wanting $120 for their kit, for less than $25, I'm all set thanks to amazon!

cmysstailights thanks for your hard work on this and for posting all of this info. I too unknowingly ordered the GM kit for the '16-'17 truck because it was listed as fitting my '15 truck. With your write up and this info, it was quicker for me to switch out the incorrect connector with the dummy connector than going to the trouble of returning it.

Glad it worked out for you. It was so much easier to just use the dummy connector
