newdude Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 Gas with either the 18" steel or 18" aluminum wheels will have the highest payload. All of the high payload trucks have the 18" wheels as the tires are a 124 load index, where the 17" and 20" are 121 load index. Higher load rating for the tires, higher payload rating on the door. That's why all the 3500HD SRW trucks only leave the factory with 18" wheels, steel or aluminum.

I ran across a 2015 with 20" during my search, and it's payload was in excess of 2700 pounds per the sticker.
Cowpie Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 I know that full of fuel, two people in the pickup, ballpark 200 lb of gear in the back, 6.0 gasser, 2015 2500 Z71 DC standard bed, and it tips the scales at about 7200 lb. GVWR is 9500, so that leaves 2300 lb I can put in the box.
GMCSooner Posted January 21, 2016 Posted January 21, 2016 2015 LTZ Z71 crew cab 4x4 door sticker is 2711
ShotgunZ71 Posted January 22, 2016 Posted January 22, 2016 Using the tire placard in the door, mine is 2304. That's a CC, 6.5' bed, 4x4 Z71, 20" wheels, and Duramax.
Gattorgetter Posted January 22, 2016 Author Posted January 22, 2016 Seems to be a bit all over the place. Getting a chance to pull some info today. I will post what I see
jhplak325 Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 2015.5 GMC Denali with Duramax without plow prep and with 20" - 2251 per door tag. Before buying this truck, I looked at a 2015 Sierra SLT CC that was equipped about the same and payload was about the same.
GMmaniac Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 Whatever the " Payload Sticker " in the drivers door says not anything else. I would think the heavier truck with the most options are rated the lowest. Mine is 2015 GMC Sierra 2500hd 4wd, Towing package, CC 6.0, Standard bed, 4.10 with a sticker of 2675 lb payload. I believe anything older " the standard " by which generates the payload isn't used anymore. A more uniform across most brands are used. Maybe a standard cab 2wd, 6.0, 4.10, standard bed has the highest payload rating. Kenny
Cowpie Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I basically looked at the GVWR on the door jam, crawled in the pickup with the wife, filled it up the 36 gallon fuel tank, still had tool box in the bed with various items in it that was roughly a couple hundred pounds, and pulled onto the grain elevator scales in town. That is how I determined what mine would haul, in a realistic way, before hitting gross. Unfortunately, the OEM's like to play fast and loose in how they publish numbers. They don't take into account fuel, people, etc. The only way to know is to do likewise and know for sure. Mine with snow plow prep, towing package, Z71, 6.0, 4.10 and I can comfortably haul 2300 lb along with the someone else in the cab and personal items, hunting gear, whatever. All in all, very reasonable.
Nuckfan Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 I've got a 2015 Silverado 2500 double cab, 6.0l, 4x4, 6.5' box. The door jamb sticker reads 3089 lbs. the glove box sticker says 2189lbs. I just bought it and have an 8' travel lite which weighs 1655lbs. I haven't had it on the truck yet to weigh it, but I think she'll be close.

All in all, very reasonable. from what I have read they figure with 150 driver and full fuel. I was also told to use this link: http://www.gmfleetorderguide.com/NASApp/domestic/proddesc.jsp?year=2015®ionID=1&divisionID=2&type=0&vehicleID=17048§ion=modelhome&page=&butID=1# However the numbers from that link I have yet to see on the line. Not unless that is the weight before driver and fuel, but even then link numbers are still higher. Also getting conflicting info as whether you can go over payload as long as under axle rating for a 5th wheel. I tell ya they really need to open the gap up, 2500 gas tows roughly the same as 3500, 2500 cc duramax kinda pointless with the payload so low
jvbronco Posted January 23, 2016 Posted January 23, 2016 2016 3500dh with Duramax. Sticker says 3875. Gives me plenty of leeway.
