Should I buy a Demo Truck?

First time truck buyer....

The dealership near me has a 2016 Silverado High Country (4x4 5.3l) with the high country premium package that is currently a Demo unit for the General Manager. It has 2,000 miles on it.

MSRP is $55,350. Dealer has it on sale for $51,035. With Current GM rebates (1,000 Super Tag, 1,000 Consumer Cash Program, 1,750 Chevy National Purchase Bonus, and 1,500 Philly Auto Show Bonus) it comes out to $45,785. Is this a good deal? Should I be able to negotiate lower since it has 2,000 miles on it?

Also, I am trying to get the $1,500 private offer online. Is that compatible with all the other GM offers? The Super Tag just got added today so I am not sure.

Thanks for any help.

Demo is sweet talk for a USED vehicle. Based on reports on what people say they paid here and what I KNOW I paid, you should be able to get a new truck for +/-$44g's.

I have been known to be called cheap (I prefer thrifty) but I'd be offering about $38

I bought a demo some years ago, it was the owners truck and was loaded with all options. I recall is had about 1,500 miles and I paid well below invoice. The dealers get an allowance for demo units so there is lots of room to move on the price.

Btw-It was the best truck I ever had, nothing ever went wrong with it. Warranty started when I purchased it.

Who "demoed" it? The sales manager? General manager? Or lots of people?

They are offering you close to 20% off. You can easily get 10%+ off on any new vehicle at any dealer. So only you can decide if 2000 miles is worth an additional 10% off.

And really, how much abuse, if any, can happen in just 2,000 miles?

Back in 2007 I bought a demo MazdaSpeed 6. It's a 6 speed turbo with almost 300HP stock. It was a really fun car but I felt the same way when they told me it was a demo. It probably had 1k miles but they were HARD miles since this is the vehicle everyone took out to spin around and drive like a maniac and probably burn up the clutch. Anyways, it's now 2016 and I have never had a single issue with the clutch or the engine. That's just my experience though. I had to buy the vehicle as "used" even though it only had like 1k miles on it. Plus you won't get as good of rates financing if it is used. Well...in most cases anyways. Bottom line is I had a great experience buying a demo.

Good Luck!

If you're willing to make the trip check out www.lorenzobomninchevrolet.com in Florida. I guess they're like the Laura Buick GMC located in Florida. Just make sure you qualify for the savings.

I bought a demo 2015 Silverado LT with higher miles than that, got a great deal, and have had no issues or complaints at all. In my opinion you could probably get it for a little lower price than that but otherwise you get a new truck for warranty purposes at a used truck price.

10k off is a good deal but it's not a great deal

They'll try to give you some amount of cents off per mile, it's usually not much. I bought a demo Malibu a few years back and only got like $600 off

It has 1600 miles on it but who really cares you're going to do that in a month or two anyway.

The one thing to ask about is did the warranty start when they got the car or when you bought it - you're going to lose a few months warranty.

Great point, when I got my Mazda demo I missed out on an entire year of coverage because it started when the dealer purchased it....So definitely ask them about that...

What was your case? How much did you pay? And I am cheap too.

General Manager is the only one to have driven it (So they say). Not sure how he drives, but I feel it couldn't have hurt the truck that much. I wanted to get it to around 25% off.

They say it has not been titled and that the warranty starts from the day you buy it.

I was thinking a dollar a mile!

Yeah warranty starts after I buy it.

Thanks for the replies...

Anyone else have any advice?

Dealers around here are commonly starting out with 4K off MSRP before rebates on NEW 2016's.

With 2000 miles on it that truck should be starting out at a used truck price so I say you can do the same deal on a NEW truck elsewhere.

If you really want that specific truck you should try to pay no more than 40K out the door, so they will have to discount bigger to start.

I've always felt like the dealer has made sure to get all the bugs out sense they don't want anything to come up during demo test drives.

Got 30% off on my last demo truck (store manager drove it) 16K off sticker. They also threw in new GM running boards and a bed liner. Had 4,000 miles on it. Best deal I have found by far. It's a truck get a good deal and buy it. They didn't off road the thing. 5 years from now nobody will care about 2,000 more miles. Fact is you can get a good 5,000 extra off and possible some extras. Get a better deal and buy it.
