If I understand your question correctly, the Bedrug liner separates from the tailgate rug via a zipper. You can choose not to install the tailgate rug/mat if you like. Does that help?

WRONG on the freezing part. I have one in my truck and it works great. Never had a problem freezing. I rinse the bed rug off with a garden hose about every other month and its good to go.

I agree no problem with freezing

I have a Bedrug as well and the only freezing issue I have heard of is if you leave the tailgate down and water accumulates in the area the tailgate portion connects to and freezes. I never keep my tailgate down for extended periods so I have never had the problem.

My bedbug tailgate and bed floor is all one piece. It does not zip off.

Mine with GMC logo unzips. Got it about a month ago. In the box it was already connected and the zipper is hidden very well.

I just bought one in December and the tailgate portion does NOT unzip - it's all one piece (this is the BedRug direct one, not Chevy branded). Maybe this is the confusion but mine is the entire BedRug that covers the front and sides too (there is a BedMat that is made from the same material that only covers the bottom and tailgate).

For the ice buildup, when my local rep installed mine he told me to "train" the fold to go up instead of down when you close the tailgate. This keeps water from laying in the groove and making ice in the winter or mold the rest of the year. For a few weeks I made sure the extra material folded up when I closed the tailgate. It didn't take too long and now it folds itself up and I don't have to do anything.

Actually, the GM branded (Chevy Bow tie or GMC) full Bedrug liners have the zipper. The Bedrug logo liners do not have the zipper. The Bedrug mats / Bedrug tailgate mats do not have the zipper...
