Quick question.

Will the Catback from a 6.2 also fit the 5.3 (assuming same truck length configuration)? CC Short Box.

Reason I ask is that I chopped mine into 3 pieces when I removed it. I'm considering headers now and might want the stock Catback on the truck again. There is a cheap 6.2 Catback on CL.

6.2 should be 3.5" from Y pipe connection to muffler.... the rest of the system varies lol. My truck ( 2015 6.2) is 3.5" pipe where the catback connects to the Y pipe..... the 5.3 trucks are 2 3/4" or 2 7/8".. one or the other.

If you are buying headers ( OP) just get the factory connect Y pipe for a 6.2 truck..... no fitment problems with a factory 6.2 exhaust that way.

So, the ball connection with the factory Y for a 5.3 might be too small for 6.2 exhaust. Talking all factory here.

I assume all mounting points are the same and the diameter of pipe being larger shouldn't matter.

You have a 5.3 truck.... go under it and measure the pipe lol. It's 3.5" on a 6.2..... I know that because I own one and did exhaust on it. But if you are doing long tubes who cares.... just order a kit for a 6.2 and then it won't matter.

1994Vmax is right. 5.3 and 6.2 use different diameter pipes. Cat back is not the same. Might have the same mounting points, but different exhaust. The headers are the same but the Y pipe is different. If you do what 1994Vmax said and order the 6.2 Y pipe with your headers and pick up the 6.2L exhaust locally, you will have a higher flowing exhaust which should be a good match for headers. That is what I would do.

If you choose to go the other way, yes, the ball connector on the 5.3L is smaller than on the 6.2L. Factory exhaust will not fit unless you have a new connector welded onto your exhaust.

Exactly the info I was looking for, and pretty much what I suspected about the ball connections.

Thanks guys!

You will lose more torque down low than you will pick up hp up high in the RPM band by putting a 6.2L system on your 5.3 due to oversized piping. I wouldn't suggest it.

Info like this is very much appreciated.

What muffler do you recommend with 3" in and out for the 5.3? Center in Offset out.

I have tried and tried to tell people on this forum that bigger is not better but know one seems to wanna believe me!

Yes, and we were talking about the 6.2 at the time. If Ryan has a dyno backing up anything you've said on the subject we'd all love to see it. But I won't hold my breath.

In fact, if he even has a dyno showing one of these new 5.3's losing torque with a catback sized for the 6.2 I'd love to see that as well; assuming the statement wasn't merely handed-down generic salesman speak.

You confused me at Ryan, lol. Now i see you're talking about the Borla rep.
