GM oil change post BBP tune question

Hey guys it is time for me to get one of my "free" oil changes. Thing is I had my truck tuned last year and I did not buy an autocal. I like my truck and the tune just the way it is. Im more of a set it and forget it type guy. My worry is I don't want GM to do any updates to anything. But, if they were to would this screw up my truck. I really don't want to advertise that I have a tune by telling them not to do any updates. I still have two oil changes and rotations and since they are "free" I want to use them. I know I could take it somewhere else but since Ive paid for the oil changes one way or another I want to use 'em. How should I handle this? Anyone else done this? Thanks.

It's not like you are loosing out on hundreds of dollars....just change the oil yourself, problem solved. And switch to full synthetic while you're at it too!

I know but I have to take it in for another unrelated warranty issue also. I just don't want them to update ANYTHING. I still want to know what would happen if...

Idk if I'd worry to much, I had the tune in my truck, when my power steering failed (couldn't remove because it was towed right to the dealer) they replaced power steering motor and power steering module, and also did the update for the 4x4 issue where it sticks in the cold. My truck still shifts like the tune is there, and they never said anything to me about it.

IMO

This question can not be answered being so many variables involved. The dealer ship policy, management, techs, etc. I would be honest if it were me and tell them, I would also try not to leave it there.

I hate to say this, unless you have a good relationship with your service manager you are taking a chance of losing your tune. The dealers check for updates when the truck comes in, they will apply them during service work. If that update involves the ECM/TCM then you will lose the tune.

My thoughts exactly.

There is no way to hide the fact that you have a tune in your truck. Every time you plug into the port and make a change to the computer there is information left behind. Even if you were to put it back to stock the tech can still see that you made changes. It's all logged in the main computer

That bright red cover is a good way for the dealership to write void all over your warranty without ever hooking up to the truck to check. Even if you are just wanting to concern yourself with warranty about unrelated parts I wouldn't even consider something like that. If you are deadest on constantly going to the dealer for whatever buy the autocal. You can leave the tune on the truck but if they do some update and overwrite it you can just flash it back on the truck again.

1994Vmax makes a debatable argument on the red cover. So how about this:

In my opinion, no different than locking the glove box and handing them the valet key.

If you're just going in for an oil change, I wouldn't worry about it. Unless there is a recall, they likely won't touch anything else. If there is a recall, they are sometimes "forced" to do the recall when they have possession of your vehicle. That will be a gamble.

One thing you can do is tell the service manager that you're in a hurry and only want your oil changed and then you need to bolt - don't worry about anything else.

If you need anything looked at besides an oil change, you're really risking it as so many things are now SW controlled. Unless you have a non-minor issue, they may unintentionally overwrite your tune. I wouldn't be concerned with them voiding your warranty though unless you have some type of engine damage. They likely won't LOOK for a tune unless GM tells them to, they just may overwrite it.
