Torque Management removal?

Recommended Posts

Hi, i have a 2006 gmc sierra 1500 with the 5.3l vortec.

It has trouble doing a burnout with the stock tires, once it gets going shes good, but i want to be able to do a burnout with M/T 33's when i get them.

I heard the answer is torque management reduction or removal, if this is, how much should i have my tuner remove, what is a safe amount to have no transmission problems, but can get the tires spinning?

Thanks

Ironically this is why they added TQ management, to help safe people from themselves. I used to do stuff like that and I went through 2 engines going bad, 1 trans replacement and broke 2 rear axles in my 98 before I learned my lesson. If you're doing a burnout it's putting more strain on the whole drivetrain from the engine to the axle.

I'm not sure if your 06 even has TQ management or Traction Control, but those are 2 things that will stop you from doing a burnout unless you just power brake it which also wears out your rear brakes. The only way I know of to disable TQ Management is with a tune and with Traction Control you should be able to turn it off with a button if it has it.

It'll go faster if you don't spin the tires. If you want power, tune and gears are the answer.

All trucks have torque management, GM just got really aggressive with it starting with the '07 trucks. Part of the reason why GM programs in TM is for both fuel economy and component longevity. Take out too much TM, and you'll increase the likelihood of transmission failure. Add in the fact that you're going to larger tires, which puts more stress on your stock components, and then you want to reduce/remove TM, that just sounds like a recipe for trouble.

And PS - if you have the G80 locker, you'll just increase the likelihood of grenading that, too, by doing burnouts.

I'm actually glad my Denali (and my 300C with the Hemi) has AWD. Prevents me from giving in and doing stupid, childish things that will break my vehicles.

As already said, if you want to do burnouts then you shouldnt be worried about fixing the trans. While i hate the fact that my truck wont spin the tires, id rather not have to put a trans in it.

I had my torque management deleted in Sara (2001 Z28) as part of a tune for installation of a 3200 stall & 3.73:1 rearend gears.

I had a "transgo shift kit & 3 qt deeper transmission pan also installed with a "Superior" 2-4 race grade servo.

I aggressively drive this vehicle :smoker: and have had no problems whatsoever in 15 years.

Why do you want to do "one wheel burnouts" anyway?

He might have the G80 like my '14 has and my '98 had. When I had my 98 I did stupid things like this and it left 2 marks everytime, at least when I power braked it. It couldn't do a burnout without power braking it. The only time it could leave any kind of mark by just punching it was if I was also turning from a stop at an intersection. I must have driven that '98 a lot harder than you drive your Camaro since I had 2 engines go out, had the trans replaced once and had 2 rear axles go out. So when I got rid of it for the '14 it was on it's 3rd axle, 2nd trans and the 2nd engine went out so for rid of it instead of replacing the engine again. That was all in a 10 year period.

I'm just unsure why you want to do burn out with mud terrain tires that are meant to have heavy traction. Anyway, I think you may need to more along the lines of beefing up the driveline, regearing and getting a tune on the engine. All of which is going to be expensive but if that's what you want, that's what you need to have done.
